Rules for Naming and Search

You must follow rules to name output formats and reports because some characters are forbidden. Consequently, the search for existing output formats and templates process supports the same characters but uses wildcards in its definition.

Naming Conventions

The following table shows the rules to be applied to name Report Generation objects.

Output format

Enter text. The name can contain space characters.

Note: The following characters are forbidden @ # $ " < > % , [ ] in names.
Report
Note: The target documents and the parameter names must follow the same rules to be linked with a report.

Search Pattern

When you create or modify a report, a search pattern lets you define a text string to search for a specific name for templates, output formats, target documents, or parameters.

Notes:
  • Case-sensitivity is ignored for a search.
  • The following characters are forbidden in the search pattern @ # $ " < > % , [ ].

You can use special characters in the search pattern:

Description Examples
Use the * wildcard to substitute zero, one, or more characters in the search. These queries are valid when searching for My Template1:
  • My T*
  • My*Template?
  • *Template*
Use the ? wildcard to substitute exactly one character in the search.
Use the | character to define multiple searches. The request: With*Column* | With*List* can return the following results:
  • With1Colum
  • With2columns
  • WithNumberedList
  • WithBulletList
