Identifying Requirement Objects to Capture from Microsoft Word

Use this procedure to identify the chapters, requirements, sub requirements, and comments found in a Microsoft Word requirement specification document before importing them into Traceable Requirements Management. In addition to capturing rich text, you can capture any drawing objects in the document as part of a requirement.

Required responsibilities:

  • Baseline: Leader (when the object is in the Frozen state) or Author

This process represents just one structured approach to performing captures. You can vary the order in which you select objects. Whichever approach you choose, pay close attention to the result when a new selection overlaps, encompasses, or falls within an existing new or imported capture. For more information, see About Requirement Capture from Microsoft Word.

With Microsoft Word 2010, 2013, and 2016, drawing objects are processed automatically during import. For more information, see Importing Captures into Traceable Requirements Management.

Before you begin: The Requirement Capture program must be installed on your local computer. For more information, see Installing Requirement Capture for Microsoft Word. You must have a requirement specification document that can be opened in Microsoft Word.

Use any of the available mouse, keyboard, or menu options to select the document area that represents a sub requirement. The sub requirement selection can include text, graphics, and tables.

Repeat this step for each sub requirement that you want to include in this requirement.

  6. In the chapter area, select a comment, then click Comment .

Use any of the available mouse, keyboard, or menu options to select the document area that represents a comment. The comment selection can include text, graphics, and tables.

Repeat this step for each comment that you want to include in this chapter.

  7. Save the document, then repeat Steps 3 through 5 for the next chapter in the requirement specification.
  8. Repeat this process for all chapters until you are ready to import your captures.
