Defining Study Members

You can define the members and their access to a study. The user who creates a study has the Owner access role. Only Owners can edit the members of a study. You cannot remove the review rights from a user if they are the last remaining member with review rights on the study who has not made edits, irrespective of the study's the lifecycle state.

If all members have edited the study, you must add another member with review rights, before you can request approval. If a user has edited the study, you cannot assign them the review rights. For more information, see Study Design and Tracking Access to Content.

Only study members with Review Rights can perform some lifecycle transitions; assign Review Rights to study members as required. For more information, see About the Lifecycle of a Study.

Add Individual Members

  1. From an open study, click to edit the study members.
    The Share Study page opens.
  2. Enter part of the name of a user to add to the study.
  3. For each study member, choose their access role, options are:
    • Reader
    • Collaborator
    • Owner

    The user who created the study is automatically an owner.

  4. Choose whether the study member has Review Rights.

The study updates with the new members and their access roles and rights.

Add Groups of Users

You can add Foundation Hub groups of users as members of a study. For more information, see Users and Groups.

  1. From an open study, click to edit the study members.
    The Share Study page opens.
  2. Enter part of the name of a Foundation Hub group to add to the study.

    Each group displays the number of users it contains below its name in the list.

  3. Choose the access role to assign to all users in the group, options are:
    • Reader
    • Collaborator
    • Owner
  4. Choose whether to assign Review Rights to all users in the group.
  5. Click OK.
    The users in the Foundation Hub group are added to the study. Initially the cards for the new members display with , indicating that their addition is in progress and an information bar displays the progress. When the addition of the group's users as study members completes, their cards display in the same way as an individually added user. If users cannot be added as members, a message reports the number of users in the group affected. For more information, see Users and Groups.

The study updates with the new members and their access roles and rights.

Change a Member's Access Role and Rights

  1. From an open study, click to edit the study members.
    The Share Study page opens.
  2. For each study member, choose their new access role, options are:
    • Reader
    • Collaborator
    • Owner

    Important: You cannot change your own access role or review rights.
    The user who created the study is automatically an owner.

  3. Choose whether the study member has Review Rights.

The study members' access roles and rights update with your changes.

Remove a Study Member

  1. From an open study, click to edit the study members.
    The Share Study page opens.
  2. Click to remove a member of the study.

The study updates with the members removed.
