Inserting Designs From 3DEXPERIENCE platform in an Active Design

This task shows you how to insert designs from 3DEXPERIENCE platform to a design that is the active open design in Solid Edge.

Using Insert function, you can insert,

  • Part in Assembly
  • Assembly in Assembly
  • Part in Drawing
  • Assembly in Drawing

You cannot insert,

  • Assembly in Part
  • Drawing in Part
  • Drawing in Assembly
  • Part in Part

Before you begin: Design in which you want to insert another design must be open and active in Solid Edge.

  1. Click 3DEXPERIENCE > Insert from Solid Edge toolbar.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Insert dialog box opens.
  2. Search for the design using Search option in 3DEXPERIENCE Insert dialog box. See Searching Designs.
The search results are listed in 3DEXPERIENCE Insert dialog box.

Select the required design from the search results. For information on the 3DEXPERIENCE Insert dialog box, see 3DEXPERIENCE Open or 3DEXPERIENCE Insert Dialog Box.

Design types that cannot be inserted in an open design will be blocked and are not available for selection in the Insert dialog box. For more information about iterations and revisions, see About Iterations and Revisions.

  3. Click Insert or right-click the design and click Insert.

The selected design is inserted to the design currently active in Solid Edge in the location (0,0,0).

Note: In Solid Edge ST3, an unresolved symbol is displayed for the component in an assembly family when an assembly family with a component is inserted using 3DEXPERIENCE > Insert. This is a Solid Edge API issue in Solid Edge ST3.
