When you select a file that has references to other files, the Contains tab displays a complete file reference tree.

The file you select can be located in the database or in your working directory.

The file list includes all related drawings. When the selected file has in-context relationships such as inserted or mirrored parts, the part-to-part relationships are shown.

The Contains tab interface provides a thumbnail of any selected file and several toolbar commands. These include toolbar commands that let you increase or decrease the level of reference, select the iteration and configuration to display, and specify whether the file list shows the as built (original), latest, or latest released iteration.

Commands selections let you:

  • Export the file list as a comma-delimited file.
  • Open the file list in a spreadsheet.
  • Select the columns displayed.

Additional controls are available when you select a file. They let you:

  • Open the selected file in SOLIDWORKS.
  • Show for the file the properties, which include the data card for the file.
  • Opens the file information in X-CAD Design Management.
  • Open another Explorer window with the focus on a selected file.
  • Change the view of the file listing. Views are Details and Content. Details show a listing with several columns of information. Content shows the same information in a maximum of three columns and includes thumbnails of each file listed in the tab.
  • Select whether to show all references in the tree or only the top level of references.
  • Specify whether to include all attached iterations of the referenced part or subassembly or only the latest attached iteration.
  • Choose the iteration of files referenced by the selected file. Preferences include Referenced iteration, Latest iteration, and Latest released revision.
  • Choose the iteration of the selected file for which references are shown.

The tab also includes a re-sizable preview pane that displays a thumbnail of any file you select within the tab. If the thumbnail is not visible, click the arrow and, if necessary, resize the preview pane. To close the preview pane, click the arrow .
