Getting a Particular Iteration of a Design

You can use the Get Iteration command to copy from the server a specific iteration of a selected file and any reference, or subordinate, files.

Context: Use this option to retrieve all the objects that are connected to the selected file at the time of check in. This option shows the physically connected structure. The option works within the same revision of all items in the given structure. Therefore, it displays the latest iteration within the selected revision. Check in and modification by all users results in As-Built view.

If the Get operation is initiated from an older iteration of a parent design and you apply "Referenced Iteration" view then, the retrieved structure displays the iteration of child designs that are connected to this iteration of parent design at the time of check-in resulting in As-Saved view.

Get a Particular Iteration in SOLIDWORKS

You can open any iteration or revision of a file in SOLIDWORKS to recover it exactly as it was at that earlier stage.

  1. With a file from the local 3DEXPERIENCE directory opened in SOLIDWORKS, do one of the following:
    • In the CommandManager:
      1. Click Get Iteration.
      2. From the iteration list, click the iteration you want to retrieve.
    • In the FeatureManager tree, click Get.
    • Click 3DEXPERIENCE > Get Iteration.
      1. From the Get dialog box for the file, click the file you want to retrieve.
      2. Click OK.
    • From the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane:
      1. Click the file you want to open.
      2. From the task pane toolbar, expand Get Iteration .
      3. Click the iteration you want to retrieve.

      Note: To open the task pane, click 3DEXPERIENCE .

  2. From the Get dialog box, select the Get check boxes for the files you want to retrieve.

    Tip: To select simultaneously all files not already in your cache, from the Details view, select the Get check box at the top of the Get column.

    When a check box is inactive but appears selected, the system automatically retrieves the file when retrieving the referencing file (assembly). Your ability to individually select parts and subassemblies when retrieving the referencing assembly depends on your administrator's settings for Global Configuration Object (GCO) attributes.

  3. To retrieve children files other than the files built with the selected iteration, from the toolbar in the Referenced iteration list, choose either:
    • To retrieve the latest iteration of the reference files, click Latest iteration.
    • To retrieve the latest released iteration of the reference files, click Latest released revision.



    Note: The default is Referenced iteration also known as the As Built iteration.

  4. Click Get.

Connector for SOLIDWORKS copies the retrieved iteration of the file from the database to your local working folder (cache), overwriting the iteration in your cache.

Get a Particular Iteration in Windows Explorer

You can get any iteration or revision of a file in Windows Explorer to recover it exactly as it was at that earlier stage.

  1. From the Windows Explorer view of 3DEXPERIENCE, select the file.
  2. Click Action > Get Iteration.
  3. Click the iteration you want to retrieve.
  4. From the Get dialog box, select the Get check boxes for the files you want to retrieve.

    Tip: To select simultaneously all files not already in your cache, from the Details view, select the Get check box at the top of the Get column.

  5. To retrieve subordinate reference files other than the files built with the selected iteration, from the toolbar, in the Referenced iteration list, choose either:
    • To retrieve the latest iteration of the reference files, click Latest iteration.
    • To retrieve the latest released iteration of the reference files, click Latest released revision.



    Note: The default is Referenced iteration also known as the As Built Iteration.

  6. Click Get.
