Viewing and Editing a Data Card in SOLIDWORKS

You can view from within SOLIDWORKS the data card for design.

You can modify the design's custom properties using the SOLIDWORKS File > Properties command.

Note: You can also view and edit a file's data card from Windows Explorer by right-clicking the file and clicking Properties or by selecting a file and clicking the Properties tab at the bottom of the right pane.


Before you begin: To be able to modify editable fields of the data card, check out the file before you view it.

File Properties Dialog Box
  1. In SOLIDWORKS, click 3DEXPERIENCE > Show Card .
  2. If the Select Object Type dialog displays:

    The Select Object Type dialog box only displays if you have not yet checked in the file and the file has multiple mapped object types.

    1. From Object Type, select an object type.
    2. Click OK.
  3. In the Properties dialog box, if there are multiple configurations, select the configuration to view or edit.
  4. For fields that are editable, you can add or modify values.

    Note: Many fields are controlled by variables and cannot be edited.

  5. To add a description of your change:
    1. Click the Description tab for the configuration.
    2. Enter the description.
  6. Click OK.
