In the local database view in Windows Explorer, right-click a file and click Properties.
- If a dialog box displays asking you to select an object type:
- From Object Type, select an object type.
- Optionally, select the Always use this type by default check box.
Selecting this check box means you do not have to select an object type for other files with multiple object types mapped for the file type. You can use later the Command menu to enable object type selection.
You are only see the dialog box asking for object type selection if: - You have not yet checked in the file.
- The file type is mapped for multiple object types.

In the Properties dialog box, click a tab and update fields as necessary.
- General - Contains read-only information such as the size and iteration number
of the file.
- File Data Card - Contains information specific to the file type (file extension).
If there are multiple configurations, select the configuration to view or edit. Read-only fields are greyed out. All other fields can be edited. - Custom - Available for files only.
If the file whose properties you are viewing
has Custom properties defined in SOLIDWORKS, they appear on the Custom tab. If you check the file out, you can add or remove custom properties and modify existing property values.
