Calculating the Floor Area of Spaces

You can calculate the floor area of spaces.

This task shows you how to:

Calculate the Floor Area Based on the Category of the Cutting Element

You can calculate the floor area of spaces based on the category defined on the cutting element.

  1. Hover over the cutting element in the tree.
A tooltip appears informing you that a category is assigned to this element.
Note: In this task, the deck category is assigned to the cutting element.
  2. Set the business rule in Data Setup to specify the deck category to be used for the floor area calculation.

For more information, see Floor Category Name.

  3. Create space references. For more information, see Publishing Space Cells and Generating Space References.
The floor area is calculated automatically and set as the attribute of the space reference.
  4. Right-click a space reference in the tree and select Properties.
  5. Check the floor area of the corresponding space in the Space Floor Area box.

Calculate the Floor Area Using the Bottom Face

You can calculate the floor area of the design space references if their bottom faces are specified.

  1. Create design space references.
  2. Set the top and bottom faces of the space references. For more information, see Specifying the Top and Bottom Faces of Design Space References.
The actual and projected floor areas of the space references are calculated automatically. The projected floor area is calculated by projecting the actual floor area on the xy plane.

    • : Design space reference
    • : Surface
    • : Actual floor area
    • : Projected floor area
  3. Right-click a space reference in the tree and select Properties.
The Space Floor Area and Space Projected Floor Area boxes display the actual and projected floor areas of the space reference, respectively.
