Creating and Editing Objects

You can create electronic physical components (EPC). You can also create electronic symbols, packages, and footprints using the Create option or from the panels for each component in the Electronic Component Editor dialog box.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Click 3DEXPERIENCE > Electronic Component Editor to open the Electronic Component Editor dialog box.

Create EPCs, Symbols, Packages, and Footprints

  1. In the Electronic Component Editor dialog box, click Create new .
  2. Select one of the following options:

    Choice Description
    Electronic Component Enter a title and description.
    Electronic Symbol
    1. Enter a name, title, and description.
    2. Select homogeneous or heterogeneous as the Package Type.
    An empty OLB is created and is added to the structure of the electronic component. Click Open Editor to open the symbol in OrCAD and edit it.
    Package Enter a title and description and click OK. The package is added to the structure of the electronic component.
    Footprint Enter a title and description and click OK to create a new footprint. The footprint is added to the structure of the electronic component.
    Important: The Allegro PCB Editor opens the empty footprint. Modify the .dra file with the required parameters and ensure that the changes are saved to 3DEXPERIENCE.

Create and Edit Components from Panels

You can edit objects using individual panels for each of the components.

  1. In the Electronic Component Editor dialog box, click the name of a component to open the following panels for the component in the same dialog box:
    Panel name Description
    Electronic Component You can do the following:
    • Edit the parameters of an EPC in the panel.
    • Lock or unlock components for edit.
    • Change the maturity of the EPC and its attached components.
    • Reload from 3DEXPERIENCE.
    Symbol Displays the symbol attached to the EPC. The following options are available:
    • Click to create an Altium symbol. An empty OLB is created and is added to the structure of the electronic component.
    • Click to search and open a symbol from 3DEXPERIENCE.
    • Click to open a symbol from your local computer.
    • Click to open the symbol in OrCAD and edit it. On changing the focus, you can update the parameters in the editor.

    You can also lock or unlock the symbol for edit, change the maturity, import symbols, reload from 3DEXPERIENCE, and view the properties of the symbol in 3DEXPERIENCE from the Symbols panel.

    Package Displays the package attached to the EPC.

    Enter a title and description to create a new package.

    The package is added to the structure of the electronic component.
    Footprint Displays the symbols attached to the EPC.

    You can click to switch the current footprint to another.

  2. In the top bar, click Save to 3DEXPERIENCE with options or Save to 3DEXPERIENCE to save the changes to 3DEXPERIENCE.
