Creating a Part Marking

Senior Design Engineers can create and manage part marking objects. Before a part is released, its part marking can be changed as long as none of the builds for the part is released. Once a part is released, its part marking cannot be changed.

  1. From the top bar, click Actions > Unit Tracking > Create Part Marking.
  2. Enter details about the part marking, including the following:

    FieldDescription
    TypeClick to select the marking type or subtype.
    NameType a unique part marking name

    Or

    Click Autoname to have the system generate a unique name for the part marking object. The default prefix is "PMK".

    DescriptionEnter details about the part marking.
    Marked BySelect if the part should be marked by lot number or by serial number. Lot Number is used for lots. Serial Number is used for builds.
    Additional Marking CharacteristicsSelect which characteristics are used when marking parts. The following are available by default:
    • Mark Part Name
    • Mark Part Type
    • Mark Part Revision
    • Mark Product
    • Mark Tooling ID
    • Mark Date
    Marking MethodSelect one of the marking methods from the drop-down list to specify how parts will be marked. The following are available by default. You may see different options depending on your system configuration.
    • Vibropeen
    • Stamp
    • Label
    • Other
    Other Marking Method Enter an alternate marking method, applicable only if "Other" is selected as the Marking Method. This cannot be one of the default Marking Method values.

  3. Click Done.

The part marking is created and is in the Create state in its lifecycle.
