Creating a V-Butt Weld (Prepared Parts)

You can create a V-butt weld using parts already chamfered. These parts can also have a gap.

Before you begin: The geometry of the prepared parts must be appropriate for the creation of a symmetric V-butt weld.

About Welds with Prepared Parts
  1. From the Weld section of the action bar, click V-Butt (Prepared Parts) .
  2. Select the prepared face, and then, the neutral face of the first part.

  3. Select the prepared face.

  4. Optional: To define the shape of the weld, click the Manufacturing tab and select an option. The shape defines the weld seam shape representation in drafting context. If you select Convex or Concave , specify a curvature value in Offset. The offset is the maximum distance between the weld face and arc.

For more information about manufacturing options, see Manufacturing.

Note: Shapes are extracted on drawings.

  5. Optional: To let the Drafting app retrieve the sides on which the weld is created, select an option:
    OptionDescription
Single Specifies a weld created on one side only.
Double Specifies a weld created on both sides.
The corresponding symbol is extracted and displayed on the drawings.

The resulting V-butt weld is symmetric.
