Background Jobs Page

Users can view all the jobs that they initiate, check the status of jobs, and take further action on jobs that are running or completed.

Because of the volume of background jobs, some apps automatically delete completed jobs. In that case, jobs from those apps do not show if you select the Completed or Archived filter, and you cannot delete or archive jobs for those apps.

To access this page:

  1. From the compass, select Social and Collaborative Apps .
  2. In the list of apps, click Collaboration and Approvals.
  3. In the navigation pane, click Utilities > Background Jobs.

Columns

Column Name Description
(Status) Indicates the current status of the job:
  • . Submitted
  • . Completed
  • . Running. If a red X is flashing, the user requested to abort this job.
  • . Failed or aborted
Name The name of the job. To view the information about the job, click the Name.
Title A short name describing the action submitted for background processing. This will be auto-named based on the specific operation that the Job will perform.
Message Any error message generated by the job.
Start Date The date and time when the process started.
Progress Percent If the job is running the reported progress percentage is displayed.
Log Click to view the log file. For failed jobs, the log file shows exactly which process in the job caused the failure.

You can choose:

  • View Log. Opens the list of messages generated as the job was processed.
  • Download/Save-as. Copies the log file(.txt format) to your computer. You can open it directly, or save the file. The dialog box that opens depends on your computer's operating system.

Click Done. If you chose to view the log, a window opens showing the file. The log file contains these columns:

Column Name Description
Type The type of job, such as RFQ (for jobs related to RFQs).
Name The name of the object used for the job, such as the RFQ name
Action The action executed by the job, such as "Export Quotation" or "Import".
Status Success, Failed, Aborted.
Description The text of the message.

Created By Shows the name of the user who created the job.

Users with the Administrator baseline access role can view jobs from all users. Other users can only see the jobs they created.

Action You can take further action on the job, depending on the job's status. The available actions depend on the app that initiated the job:
  • For a running job, click Monitor Progress to see detailed information about its progress. Jobs submitted from X-CAD Design Management do not include the progress monitor.

This page shows the Current Activity that the job is currently executing and the Modified Date shows when the job was last modified, such as when the job was restarted.

For an active job, you can click Abort to cancel the job. For a completed job that has a Next Step action defined, you can click the link to initiate that next step. Not all jobs have next steps defined.

  • For a successfully completed job, click the link, if available. The app that initiated the job may have defined a Next Step, such as running a report after importing content. If the job has completed, this field shows a link you can use to start the next step. Not all jobs have a Next Step action.
  • For failed or aborted jobs, no link exists.
Click to view the job's detail page. See Background Job Properties Page.
