Releasing a BOM Configuration in Development Mode

A Configured BOM has multiple configurations, each of which is specified in an applicability definition. The applicability definition is associated with a CA that is attached to the BOM. This means that while a specific BOM configuration can be released, the Configured BOM from which it is derived, will always be in the In Work state.

A CO for a development mode--or work-in-progress (WIP)-- BOM is used only to release the EBOM. The effectivity is not considered in this case. Unconfigured parts can also be used in a configured WIP BOM. Any unconfigured WIP BOM children must be at the Released state before releasing the WIP BOM configuration.

This task shows you how to:

Release a Configured WIP BOM

To use the CO process to release a WIP BOM configuration:

  1. Access the Engineering BOM > EBOM tab in edit mode. See Editing a Configured Part Bill of Materials.
  2. Assign a CO to the parts. From the page toolbar, click either the Add to Existing Change Order or the Add to New Change Order icon.
  3. Either search for and select an existing CO or create the new CO. See Predefined Queries.
  4. Promote the CO to Release from its Lifecycle page.
    1. Go to the CO Properties page. See Opening a Change Object with Applicability.
    2. Click the Lifecycle category.
    3. Click to promote the CO to the Release state, completing the review and approval routes as required. See Routes.

Assign a Different Change Order (CO)

Before the WIP BOM configuration is released, you can remove the CO assigned to it and assign another one.

  1. Open the part that has the CO assigned to it.
  2. Select the Change Management category and then select the Change Order tab.
  3. From the page toolbar, click the Remove icon.
  4. Assign a different change object. Go to Step 2 in the section above: Release a Configured WIP BOM.
  5. From the page toolbar, click either theAdd to Existing Change Order or the Add to New Change Order icon.
Either search for the existing CO or create a CO as required.
