Save Columns

Column Name Description
Status The status of each document is indicated by one of the following icons:

Status in session:

  • : The document is new, and does not exist in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. For new objects, you cannot retrieve the name and revision information from the server. The new objects will be saved along with their parent.
  • : You have modified the document.
  • : You have updated the document.
  • : The document information is from the session cache.
  • : The document is obsolete.
  • : Indicates that you can save structure modifications for 3DEXPERIENCE data.

A second icon may appear next to the status icon indicating either an error, or a warning.

  • Error : The document cannot be saved, and is automatically excluded from the save scope. A tooltip gives more information about the errors:
    • No overwrite access due to the detected concurrent modification.
    • The object is modified and the corresponding file is read-only.
    • The analysis computation cannot be saved. The option Automatic clearing of computation data is enabled in Tools > Options > Analysis and Simulation > External Storage.
    • You cannot save the template files. You must use the Edit Template option from 3DEXPERIENCE > New.
    • The object corresponding file is read-only.
    • The file name for this document has unsupported characters restricted by administrator.
    • The object name for this document has unsupported characters restricted by administrator.
    • The title for this document has unsupported characters restricted by administrator.
    • You cannot access this object.
    • The file for the existing document is missing, or not opened.
    • The file for the existing document is not found, or is not accessible.
    • The extension for this document is invalid.
    • No overwrite and revise access on this object.
    • The catalog is blocked due to the activated dynamic loading.
    • The file is opened from the local disk. To perform modifications you must open the file from 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Warning : The object is still included in the save scope. A tooltip gives more information about the warning:
    • The object is not latest.
    • The object is unlocked and to be saved.

Note: When you delete a document that is open in CATIA V5 session from web, the status appears as Cached Information in the Save dialog box. The title is not displayed for the deleted document. You must include the document in the save scope to view the title and the New status.

Action One of the following actions is displayed, depending on the status of the document in the Status column:
  • Revise : You can include an existing object (that is not already included) and then revise the object.
  • Duplicate : You can duplicate an existing object.
  • Save as new : You can save the object as a new object.

These commands add the immediate parent of the document in the save scope.

Save You can use the check box in the Save column to include or exclude a single document.
Title The title attribute of the 3DEXPERIENCE document. This column also shows an icon that is specific to each type.
Rev For a modified document, click the revision, and select a revision from the list of existing revisions. The document is saved to the selected revision.

If you try to save a document that does not have the privileges to save the selected revision, an error message appears.

Note: By default, you can save documents to their current revision.

You can create a new revision using a non-latest revision. The Revision column lists the available revision streams. It shows the current revision available in session, and the next revision that you can create.

Type The type of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform object associated with a document. For new documents, select one or more document type from the list.
CAD Type The type of CAD document. You can view CAD Type of all kinds of documents:

Display Options

Save Options Description
Save scope The Save Scope list appears in the top toolbar of the Save dialog box. You can choose one of the following save scopes:
  • Active document: The selected document.
  • Current Editor: Lists the documents in the active document window and the documents they point to.
  • Session: Lists all the documents that are open in the active session, and the documents they point to.
Filter (Show only modified objects) Select the Show only modified objects check box to view only the modified objects in the content view.

Save Options

The below save options appear in the information (right) panel:

Save Options Description
Unlock Select the Unlock check box, and click OK to unlock your documents after save is performed.
Background Save Select the Background Save check box to save documents in the background. You can continue to work in the session while saving is still in progress. In the Background Save mode, you can edit geometry, and product structure in CATIA V5.

If you get an error during Background Save, you can perform one of the following actions:

Retry: Submit the failed save again. This is the most appropriate choice if the error is temporary. For example, a network issue.

Restore: Close; and reopen editors or documents referencing a document in the save scope. You may lose the modifications that you have not saved.

Ignore: Close the Error dialog box. The CATIA V5 session is saved.

During the background save, an embedded progress bar appears instead of a pop-up dialog box. Some commands do not work while using a background save:

  • All 3DEXPERIENCE commands are disabled.
  • Open from web is disabled; an error message appears if you perform this operation.

Add Comment Select the Add Comment check box. Enter your text (maximum 256 characters) in the comment box. The comment is associated to each object that is being saved. When you save your changes, the details of the revision comment appear in the Properties tab in the widget.

Save Commands

You can access the save commands from the toolbar and also from the context menu (except bookmark and information panel):

Command Name Description
Exclude from Save scope Excludes the selected documents from save.
Include in Save scope Includes the selected documents for save. If you include an embedded component in the save scope, its parent product is also included. If you include an existing product in the save scope, you can also save all the associated embedded components (in the NEW state).
Save as new Revision Saves the selected documents to the next revision. You can use this command for Not Latest objects. This command is available even if you do not have a revise access. A No Revise access tooltip appears in the Action column.
Save as new Branch You can use the Save as new Branch command only for existing and modified documents (not for new documents). In the Save as new Branch dialog box you can:
  • Enter a prefix (the OK button is enabled by default).

Note: The OK button is disabled if you enter a restricted character.

  • Continue without entering a prefix.

When you select only one object, you can enter an optional title (and not prefix ) of a new branch. If the field is empty, the title of the original object is used.

If you have selected multiple objects, you can enter an optional prefix (that will be prepended to the title of the original object).

appears in the Action column of the document. You can use Save as new Branch on all the file types that you can save in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. This command adds the immediate parent of the document in the save scope.

Derived output

Derived Outputs are displayed for every type of selected objects. You can select derived outputs for each type (of selected objects) and click OK. The selected derived outputs in each tab page are assigned only for selected object of that type. For example, if you select an Analysis and CATPart , two tabs are displayed in the Derived Outputs panel, one for analysis type and another for the component type.

You can generate derived outputs automatically while saving documents. Select the required documents for setting the derived outputs in the Save dialog box.

In the Save dialog box, right-click the selected documents, and click Derived Outputs. A list of all the supported derived output types appears. The check boxes in the Derived Output dialog box display one of the following statuses:

  • : You have not selected the derived output type.

  • : You have selected the derived output type for all the documents that support it.

The derived output type is defined for the selected documents in the Save dialog box.
Note: CATProducts do not support derived output types.
Lock Locks the selected document.
Unlock Unlocks the selected document. For more information, see Lock or Unlock Documents from Save Dialog Box.
Change Maturity Changes the maturity state of CATIA V5 data. You need not perform a save after changing the maturity of objects.
Rename filename You can rename a file using Save with Options. Right-click a document, and select Rename filename from the context menu. You can enter a new name for the file in the Rename Filename dialog box.

You can rename the following types of files:

  • CATProduct
  • Embedded Component
  • CATPart
  • CATShape
  • CATDrawing
  • CATProcess
  • CATAnalysis
  • CATMaterial
  • Catalog
  • CGR

The Rename Filename command is available on data with following operations:

  • New
  • Save As New
  • Save As Duplicate
  • Save as New Branch
  • Save as New Revision

The Rename Filename command will only rename file of the document. The title of the documents will be changed if no CAD attribute is mapped to the title for the New, and Save As New operations.

Save as New You can use the Save as New command to create a new object from the existing data in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. There is no link between the two objects. You can create a new object in the database, but the file is not changed. In the Save dialog box, right-click an object, and select Save as New. The Name and Revision columns are empty for the objects that are saved as new.
Save as Duplicate You can use the Save as Duplicate command to save the modification into a new object (duplicate object). You can retain the link with the original data. You can save existing, or modified data as a duplicate object in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Multiselection is allowed. The Save as Duplicate dialog box appears after you select Duplicate from the context menu.

After a document is define as duplicated, the Save dialog box shows the duplicated status. You can update the part number of the duplicated document with the modified title.

Add to bookmark

When you click the Bookmark button, a bookmark chooser is displayed to select a bookmark and assign it to selected data in the Save dialog box. Only indexed bookmarks are displayed. You cannot create bookmarks using this chooser. You must use the web Bookmark Editor widget.

By default, the bookmark column contains a list of bookmarks to which data is already associated. If there are multiple bookmarks, the ‘|’ separator is automatically added. Click Set to add the bookmark.

When you add a new target bookmark for the save operation, the bookmark column is updated with the additional bookmark name. You can add this bookmark name at the beginning of the existing bookmark list.

If you want to view the session bookmark associated to your data, you must check the contextual information. This information helps you differentiate between the bookmarks already used for classification, and the additional bookmark that is used for save. You can add one bookmark per object for every save.

If you have assigned a previous bookmark to an object, the new selection replaces the previous one.

Information Panel

Click to show or hide the information panel. This panel displays:

  • Document preview
  • Save scope details
  • Change Action name (when you are working under change in your CATIA V5 session).

Note: The context menu options are not available for non-file documents (VPM V5, VPM V4, and SmarTeam). You can manually exclude the parent if you do not want to add the new object in your assembly. You can save the objects along with their parent if they are:
  • Saved as new
  • Saved as duplicate
  • Saved as new revision
  • Newly inserted in the product structure

Highlighting Objects

In the Design and Visualization modes, when you select single or multiple objects in the 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box:

  • Corresponding objects are highlighted in the specification tree and 3D.
  • If the selected object is inserted multiple times in an assembly, all the instances of that object are highlighted in all open editors.
