About Saving Documents in 3DEXPERIENCE

You can save different types of CATIA V5 documents in 3DEXPERIENCE.

Supported File Types and Links

Design with CATIA V5 ensures that all documents are saved by retaining the links between objects representing CATIA V5 documents.

When you name files, you cannot use the following characters:

  • > (greater than)
  • < (less than)
  • * (asterisk)
  • : (colon)
  • " (quotation mark)
  • ? (question mark)
  • \ (backslash)
  • | (vertical bar)
  • / (slash)
  • trailing space
  • leading space

You can use maximum 206 characters (for file names without extension).

When you work in 3DEXPERIENCE you must import your legacy file based data in 3DEXPERIENCE using the import batch, or using Save to 3DEXPERIENCE. Once you do this, you must delete the data from its original location on the disk. You can also move the data to another location on the disk. This helps you avoid link rerouting issues.

Note:
  • If data contains links to non-file documents (e.g. data from VPM V5, VPM V4, and SmarTeam), then it is advised to clean such non-file links by running File >Send To on such data before first save to 3DEXPERIENCE. This is required only when you manually save such data from CATIA V5. It is not necessary when data is migrated to 3DEXPERIENCE platform from external PDM systems.
  • You can save weight and balance information for CATIA V5 parts in 3DEXPERIENCE.
