What's New

This section describes recent changes in Circuit Board Design.

This page discusses:

R2022x FD01 (FP.2205)

Import IDX File

You can import an IDX file from the top bar by clicking and scrolling down to select the IDX format.
Benefits: Gives you an alternative method for importing IDX files.
For more information, see Pushing, Pulling, and Importing IDX Files

Previsualize New Layout Data Model for IDF and IDX Commands

You can previsualize all changes of an IDF or IDX file before importing or exporting them into or from the current model. This lets you visually determine if you want to accept or reject a change.
Benefits: Gives you greater visibility for accepting or rejecting changes. Facilitates collaboration between ECAD and MCAD designers.
For more information, see About IDF and IDX Previsualization

Easy Creation of Printed Circuit Boards and Assemblies

You can create Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) by clicking in the top bar and scrolling down to select the respective option.
Benefits: Gives you an easier and faster way to create new PCBs and PCBAs.
For more information, see Creating a Board Assembly

Create Electronic Logical Components

You can create electronic logical components that store symbol and pin definitions. Likewise, you can create electronic logical pins that store the electronic component's logical data.
Benefits: Provides two new object types for electronic objects to have the right specific attributes while remaining compatible with electrical logical design models and apps.
For more information, see Creating Electronic Logical Components

R2022x GA

Create Board Layout and Cutout Commands

There are new commands to Create the board layout , Create a hole , Create a cutout , and Create a constraint .
Benefits: You benefit from simplified layout and cutout creation.
For more information, see Creating Cutouts

Support New Component Data Model in Pushes and Pull of IDX Flexible Boards

It is now possible to collaborate new component data models in the context of EDMD collaboration scenarios.
Benefits: You benefit from a new data model where they can manipulate new information linked to a new representation of an electronic component.
For more information, see Pushing, Pulling, and Importing IDX Files

New Board Layout Adoption for Rigid Boards

The user interface has been improved to support board layout data models with all features such as board outline, layer stack, layers geometry, and drilled holes in the tree.
There are new commands to edit all new features. You can import and export commands to support all new features with IDF 3, 3++, and IDX. You can migrate an old board to a new model.
Benefits: These enhancements offer a simplified way of using Circuit Board Design with fewer steps to creating and editing your board. They also offer a more organized approach to designing and modifying circuit boards.
For more information, see Creating Rigid Flex Features

Electronics Data Upgrade Command

A significant improvement lets you upgrade data from previous data models to be able to edit and create new features.
Benefits: This enhancement gives you a simplified way of upgrading old models all the while being able to edit and create new features.
For more information, see Upgrading Electronics Data
