Receiving and Merging Data

This task shows you how to receive design changes in a peer-to-peer collaborative environment.

There are three different ways for receiving and merging shared data:

Receive in Snapshot Mode
Merge after Previewing the Changes
Using the Merge Assistant

Before you begin:

Set up your PLM workplace
Start a mechanical design or shape design app that accepts the Collaborative Design protocol.

Note: If your Message Board is open, it will indicate reception of shared data. Otherwise, an awareness box with a thumbnail showing the data appears on the screen.

If you choose to ignore the message, the awareness box will disappear shortly after its appearance. In all events, the sender name will be added to your Recent Contacts.

In a product context, features are merged with the active representation by default. If this is not the representation you want to merge sent features with, activate the right one.

Receive in Snapshot Mode

You can receive a design change in Snapshot mode.

In the Message Board, click See Received Data to view details about the snapshot.
In the received data area, double-click the snapshot line.
The Merge icon displays in the HUD.
Double-click this icon.
A snapshot of the data is superimposed on your data in the 3D. A slider at the bottom of the HUD lets you change the transparency of the preview to visualize before and after views of the design. You can change the transparency using the slider and manipulate the design to view changes better.
Do one of the following:
- Click to accept the proposed change and merge it with your work.
- Click to refuse the proposed change and keep your initial data.

Merge after Previewing the Changes

You can merge a design change after previewing the changes.

In the Message Board, click See Received Data to view details about the data shared.
In the received data area, double-click the Merge line.
The Merge toolbar displays in the HUD.
Click Preview to visualize the future merge and compare it to the existing current representation.
Change the transparency using the slider.
Note: A slider at the bottom of the HUD lets you change the transparency of the preview to visualize before and after views of the design.
Manipulate the design to view changes better.

Do one of the following:

Click to accept the proposed change and merge it with your work.
Click to refuse the proposed change and keep your initial data.

Warning: When merging a representation with features simultaneously modified by both designers, the features contained in the representation appear in the same order as in the sender's briefcase. If a feature has been added by the receiver, even it is more recent than the feature of the sender's, the feature of the sender appears before the receiver's one. Note: In case of conflict during a merge operation, you will lose your modifications and the data that are kept are those you received.

Using the Merge Assistant

You can use the Merge Assistant.

In the Message Board, See Received Data to view details about the data shared.
In the received data area, double-click the Merge line.
The Merge toolbar displays in the HUD.
Click Merge Assistant .
The Merge Assistant is displayed.
Do one of the following:
- Click Merge to accept the proposed change and integrate it fully into your work.
- Click Cancel to refuse the proposed change and keep your initial data. The clipboard merge is deleted.
Important: In case of conflict during a merge operation, you will lose your modifications and the data that are kept are those you received.
In the Message Board, click the line indicating that you received data from a designer you work with.
The Merge toolbar displays in the HUD.
Click Merge Assistant .
The Using the Merge Assistant dialog box is displayed.
Use one of the options proposed in by the Merge Assistant.
