You can add a range of elements to topics.

  1. Open the topic that you want to edit.
  2. Add paragraphs and other elements to the topic content. You can press Enter to add an empty paragraph, or use the toolbar to insert elements and references.

    The Insert menu only allows you to create the elements allowed at the cursor's location.

    You can use the tools in the toolbar to assign an ID to the element, add or remove an element, or apply styles to text elements. For more information, see Toolbar Commands for a Topic.

  3. If you intend to use an element as the target of a cross-reference, click , enter a unique ID, and click OK.

  4. Click Save .

    You do not enter a file name when saving topics. The app uses an internal, unique naming convention to store the topic, and uses the title when searching for topics. Titles are not unique and you could have multiple topics with the same title, however, each topic has a unique internal identifier so one topic cannot overwrite another.
