Connecting Hardware Objects Using Commands

In a topology, you can create a hardware connection from several starting points.

You can create assembly connections from the context menus or from the topology view commands.

Important: To create a connection, the EE component port and the other element must have the same connector type or compatible types for a heterogeneous connection. The other element can be a channel, a topology, or a subsystem port.

The following scenario describes how to connect elements such as an ECU and a bus. The scenario is identical for:

  • Other EE components.
  • Wires.
  • Ports that are starting points.

Before you begin:
  • Create a topology with ports.
  • Instantiate in the topology, a channel, an ECU with ports, and two subsystems with ports.

  1. Right-click one of the following elements and select a corresponding connection command:

    Topology Connect Topology
ECU Instance Connect EE Component Instance
Bus Channel Instance Connect Channel Instance
    Subsystem Instance Connect Subsystem

    Note:

To connect a subsystem to another element, you can:

    • Create a physical channel instance placed at the top common hierarchical level of both elements.
    • Create a direct connection between them.

  2. In the connection dialog box, depending on your choice in the Source area, select the following elements in the Target area between:
    SourceTarget

    • An ECU and a port
    • A subsystem and a port

    Tips:
    • To create a direct connection between a topology port or an ECU, and a subsystem, see Connecting a Subsystem by Dragging.
    • To create heterogeneous connections, clear Hide ports or channels with different connector type.

If the target port is connected to the topology through a bus, the bus is external.

The connection is added and appears under the Connections node of the topology and under the EE components, subsystems, or channels.
