Managing Constraints

Before routing your cables, you can use constraints to identify path portions that need to be excluded or included in your cable routes. Moreover, you can define the direction of the electrical signal passing through an included portion.

Important: You cannot define a constraint on a distant link.

Managing Cable Routes
  1. From the Cable section of the action bar, click Routing Assistant .
  2. In the tree, select an electrical physical system.
The Routing Assistant panel appears. Cable routes are listed.
  3. In the panel, select the Contraints mode: .
    The following commands are available:
    Command Description
Edit constraints Allows to create or edit inclusion and exclusion constraints, and lets you define the orientation of inclusions.
Copy constraints Copies all the constraints of a cable to another cable.

If constraints are already defined, they are replaced with the copied constraints.

Activate/Deactivate constraints Activates or deactivates the constraints defined on the cables.
Important: Constraints must be activated to be taken into account in the routing process. When constraints are activated, the following commands are impacted by the inclusions and exclusions:
    • Route automatically
    • Complete route automatically
    • Route manually
    Clear constraints Removes constraints.
  4. To create an inclusion constraint:
    1. Select one or several cables in the list, and click Edit Constraints .
      A context toolbar appears.
    2. Click Inclusion mode , and then click a portion of your network in the 3D area.

      Tips:
      • You can also select a branch or a segment in the tree.
      • Multiselecting portions is allowed.
      • Selecting two connection points allows to include the portion between the two points.

      The selected portion is highlighted.

    3. Optional: Click one of the arrow to define the orientation of the constraint.
    4. To validate, click in the 3D area or Exit .
  5. To create an exclusion constraint:
    1. Select one or several cables in the list, and click Edit Constraints .
      A context toolbar appears.
    2. Click Exclusion mode , and then click a portion of your network in the 3D area.

      Tips:
      • You can also select a branch or a segment in the tree.
      • Multiselecting portions is allowed.
      • Selecting two connection points allows to include the portion between the two points.

      The selected portion is highlighted.

    3. To validate, click in the 3D area or Exit .
Once constraints are defined, you can proceed with the routing of your cables.
    Important:
    • To edit an inclusion or an exclusion, constraints must be activated.
    • You can manage the visualization of constraints using Activate/Deactivate Constraint Visualization . Visualization colors can be modified in the Routing Assistant panel.
