Modifying Segments

You can change the shape and edit the properties of an individual segment.

For flat cables, some actions may lead to another behavior. For more information, see Converting Flat Cables into Regular Branches.

Before you begin: Create an electrical branch geometry. The Branch Definition dialog box is still open.

About Segment Modification
  1. In the Branch Definition dialog box, click Segments Definition.
The Segments Definition dialog box appears and displays several sections:
    • List of segments, followed by two commands: Add Branch Point and Remove Branch Point .
    • Extremity Management: to define the ratio of the segment start and end points.
    • Visualization Management: to reframe the view on the selected segment.
    • Color: to edit the color of the segment.
    • Flexibility: to modify the segment flexibility. The slider lets you set a value between 1 and 5 to define individual segment stiffness. The lower the value, the stiffer the segment.
    • Profile Type: to manage segment profiles (Circle, Ellipse, Rectangle, Truncated Rectangle).
      Notes:
      • It is not possible to create flat cables with a Truncated Rectangle profile.
      • When you create a branch with a Truncated Rectangle profile, the profile is oriented according to the orientation of the branch in the 3D area.
    • Section Parameters: to enter a length, a width, or a diameter.
    • Section Area: to specify section parameters for each profile.
    • Detailed Profile Management: to manage further properties.
  2. In the list, select the segment you want to modify.
The name of the segment appears in the Name box.
  3. Click Reframe on selection to reframe the work area on the selected segment.
  4. Change the segment shape and parameters:

    For example:

    1. Set the Profile Type to elliptical.

Note: The Section Parameters section changes according to the selected Profile Type .

    2. Enter 15mm for the Major Axis under Section Parameters.

The Segment Definition dialog box lets you manage the Profile Type and Section Parameters of segments having simple shapes defined by a single sketch. To create segments with multiple profiles, see Creating Multi-Profile Branches.

Note:Section Parameters are unavailable if you have defined different section shapes along the segment via Creating Multi-Profile Branches.

  5. Click Apply to visualize your modifications, and then click OK to validate.

Tip: If you double-click a segment in the tree, the Segment Definition dialog box appears and gives you access to a limited number of properties: Name, Diameter, Color and Length.
