Displaying Pins on a Connector

In a diagram view, you can display the pins on a harness connector or a disconnect symbol.

You can define the default symbol representation of a pin through the resource of the Data Setup.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Create a logical reference under the Logical node.
  • Create and activate a diagram view under the logical reference.
  • Create a harness connector or a disconnect and insert a symbol representation under the connector.
    Tip: You can also define a default representation in the Data Setup. For more information, see Defining Electrical Component Representation in Data Setup.
  • Create pins under the harness connector/disconnect.

Display Pins on a Harness Connector

  1. From the tree, right-click the harness connector and select Place in View.
    The symbol appears and follows your pointer in the diagram view.
  2. Click the diagram view at the convenient place to insert the symbol.
    The symbol is placed and a context toolbar appears.
  3. On the context toolbar, select Display Connector and Pins .

    Notes:
    • You can define a default representation that displays every time you place your connector. For more information, see Defining Customized Connector Representation.
    • To display all pins on a harness connector representation retrieved from the Data Setup, select the Display all pins option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Architecture > Electrical Sys. Design > Schematic. For more information, see Native Apps Preferences Guide: Schematic.

  4. In the Manage Connector and Pins Display dialog box, select the Display Connector Port check box to display the connector port.
  5. Optional: To retrieve the partial representation from Data Setup, clear the Full Representation check box.
  6. In the Step box, type the step value to define the distance between two pins.
  7. In the Offset box, type the offset value to define distance between the top of the connector and the first pin.

    Note: The unit for the step and the offset values is the millimeter.

  8. Optional: To change the position of a pin, drag it to the desired position.

    Note: Multiselection is available.

  9. Select the boxes of the pins to be displayed.

    Note: A pin cannot be selected if the Lock pin multiple representation option is selected in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Architecture > Electrical Sys. Design > Schematic and if the pin is already represented in a diagram view loaded in session. For more information, see Native Apps Preferences Guide: Schematic.

  10. Click OK.
    The connector representation with the selected pins is placed in the diagram view. The pins are placed on the right side of the connector and the connector port on the left side.

  11. To change the position of a pin when placed in the diagram view, drag it to the desired position.

    Note: If you press shift while dragging a pin, the pin which was previously at the selected position is positioned just under the moved pin. All the pins below are shifted down.

    The moved pin is placed at the selected position. The pin which was previously at this position takes the position of the pin which has been moved.

Display Pins on a Disconnect

  1. From the tree, right-click the disconnect and select Place in View.
    The symbol appears and follows your pointer in the diagram view.
  2. To insert the symbol, click the diagram view at the convenient place.
    The symbol is placed and a context toolbar appears.
  3. In the Step box, type the step value to define the distance between two pins.
  4. From the context toolbar, select Display Connector and Pins .

    Notes:
    • You can define a default representation that displays every time you place your connector. For more information, see Defining Customized Connector Representation.
    • To display all pins on a disconnect representation retrieved from the Data Setup, select the Display all pins option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Architecture > Electrical Sys. Design > Schematic. For more information, see Native Apps Preferences Guide: Schematic.

  5. Optional: In the Manage Connector and Pins Display dialog box, clear the Full Representation check box to retrieve the partial representation from the Data Setup.
  6. In the Offset box, enter the offset value to define distance between the top of the connector and the first pin.

    Note: The unit for the step and the offset values is the millimeter.

  7. Select one of the following options under Style:
    • Both: to display the whole disconnect symbol with the plug and the receptacle
    • Receptacle: to display only the receptacle
    • Plug: to display only the plug
  8. Select the boxes of the pins to be displayed.

    Note: A pin cannot be selected if the Lock pins multiple representation option is selected in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Architecture > Electrical Sys. Design > Schematic and if the pin is already represented in a diagram view loaded in session. For more information, see Native Apps Preferences Guide: Schematic.

  9. Click OK.
    The connector representation with the selected pins is placed in the diagram view. The pins of the receptacle and the plug are placed respectively on the left side and on the right side of the disconnect.

  10. To change the position of a pin when placed in the diagram view, drag it to the desired position.

    Note: If you press shift while dragging a pin, the pin which was previously at the selected position is positioned just under the moved pin. All the pins below are shifted down.

    The moved pin is placed at the selected position. The pin which was previously at this position takes the position of the pin which has been moved.

Display Customized Pins on Components

You can display customized pins on a component (connector port, equipment, connector...).

The following topic shows an example with a harness connector.

Before you begin: In the diagram view, place a harness connector.
  1. Create a symbol representation of a pin. See Symbol Design User's Guide: Managing a Symbol with Symbol Design.

    Note: If no geometry is defined in the symbol representation (i.e. text only), a connection point will be created automatically when the pin is displayed in the diagram view.

  2. In Data Setup, assign the symbol representation as a resource. See Default Symbol of Pin.
  3. Right-click the harness connector and select Display Port in View.

    Note: The pins can also be displayed with the Display Connector and Pins command.

  4. Place the pin in the diagram view.
    The pin appears on the harness connector.
    Note: When the symbol of the harness connector is moved, the symbols of the pins move too.
