Selecting a Physical Connector

You can define a physical connector (part number) to retrieve the logical connector for a terminal block or a production break (disconnect).

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Generate the wiring data.
  • Open the wiring and net system.
  • Compute the gauges of the cables and wires. For more information, see Gauge Computation.
  • Define a library containing authorized production break and terminal blocks. For more information, see Creating General Libraries and Creating General Classes.
  • For connector from Engineering Specification Capture & Reuse: Create an Engineering Specification filter containing authorized production breaks and terminal blocks. For more informatio. For more information, see Specification, Tables, and Filter Definition.
  • In the Data Setup > Electrical Specifications Resources resource set, assign an electrical specification resource with the tables and the filter to the Default Electrical Resources.

Select a Physical Connector

You can select a physical object from a library or from Engineering Specification Capture & Reuse.

  1. Select one of the following elements:
    • An interface volume or a derivation volume
    • A terminal block or a disconnect
    • A connector from the terminal block or disconnect (terminal or pin).
  2. From the Net to Wire section of the action bar, click Wiring Definition Assistant .
The Wiring Definition Assistant dialog box appears.
  3. In the Active Harness list, select a harness.
  4. Click one of the following commands:
    • Physical from Library : The Library Browser dialog box opens and displays all the available physical connector.
    • Select Physical : The Choose Physical dialog box opens and displays all the available physical connectors according to the filter created in Engineering Specification Capture & Reuse.
  5. In the Library Browser dialog box, select a connector. For more information, see connector.
  6. Click Apply Selection .
In the Cavities and Reservations tabs, the corresponding logical connector is added under the harness.

Select a Compatible Connector

For interface volume, you can find the logical counter part of the compatible physical part number.

Before you begin:
  1. In the Compatibilities tab, select a logical connector.
  2. Click Find Compatible Connectors .

Note: If there is more than one possible harness on the interface, you need to select the harness where the connector must be instantiated.

A compatible part number for the selected connector is searched in the compatibility table. If one is found, the compatible connector appears in the Compatibilities tab with the New status.
  3. Click Apply Selection .

The new connector is connected to its compatible connector and the status is switched to Connected.

Note: You can also connect manually to existing connectors. For more information, see Connecting Manually Connectors.
