Creating a Pocket

You can create a pocket based on a simple profile and usually having side walls and a bottom. It also has an inner protected volume, which means that no other volumes in the same body can penetrate this area.

If you add a pocket to a shelled body, it creates supporting walls, if necessary.

Note: Depending on your role, you may not have access to this functionality.

  1. From the Create section of the action bar, click Pocket .

    The Pocket.x dialog box appears.

  2. A pocket requires a closed planar profile. Select the profile defining the shape of the pocket.

Tip: If no profile is defined, click Positioned Sketch to sketch the profile.

  3. Prism is the default shape. You can also select Sweep . The direction of a pocket always goes from the inside to the outside of the body.
  4. In the Floor and Opening tabs set the parameters and options.

  5. Click Reverse Direction .
  6. Select the Clearance volume check box.
  7. In the Draft tab, specify draft parameters.
    1. In the Draft behavior list, select Intrinsic to feature.
    2. In the Angle box, enter the required value.

The default neutral element (which defines a neutral curve on which the drafted face will lie) is the Profile plane.

The other possible neutral elements can be:

      • Floor
      • Opening
      • Plane/Surface

    3. Optional: In the Clearance volume angle box, enter an angle value.

  8. In the Fillet tab, specify fillet parameters.
    1. Select the Lateral radius and Floor radius check boxes to fillet lateral edges and the floor edges.
    2. Select the Draft fillets check box to fillet the drafted faces.

For more information, see draft fillets.

  9. To define the wall, set one of the two options available from the Type list.
    Available type options are:
    • Use body thickness: The pocket wall thickness is that of the active shelled body thickness.

    • Enter thickness: Simply enter the value you want. After this option is selected, the value box becomes available. Wall thickness values can only be positive values.

From the Direction list, you can control whether the wall is constructed inside or outside of the selected profile. The default is an outside wall thickness. With Constant wall thickness check box, it propagates the fillets inside of the shell to maintain the wall thickness. By default, this check box is selected.

Enter a value in the Thickness box of the Enter thickness option.

  10. Click OK.

The pocket is created. The protected volume is hidden. Pocket.x is added to the tree in the Solid Functional Set.x node.
