Component Materials of a Part

You can use the Component Materials list to create, view, and edit the component materials of a part.

The list only includes materials directly connected to the context part. It does not list materials from any child part in the structure.

Required access roles:

  • Baseline: Author
  • App-specific: Compliance Engineer

Additional access roles:

  • If you only have the Review and Approve license role, you can view this page but you cannot perform any other actions.
  • If you only have the Platform Contributor license role, you can view this page but you can only perform the Update to Latest Material Revision action.
  • If you have the Product Engineer license role, you can view and edit material attributes, and add existing materials to or remove materials from the part.

To access this page:

  1. Open the required part. For more information, see Opening a Part.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Compliance.

    Or, in the navigation pane, click Compliance.

  3. Click the Component Materials tab.

Columns

If any component material uses the Unknown quantity type, none of the other component materials can use the Fill quantity type. If any component material uses the Fill quantity type, none of the other components can use the Unknown quantity type.

Column Name Description
Name/Title The name of the part or the descriptive title of the material.
Weight The weight of the material in the part.
Quantity Type How the Weight is calculated:

Value Description
Fill The app calculates the weight when you click Save. Only one material in the list can have Fill selected.

When using Fill, all components must use either percentage, range, or PPM as the Weight Unit of Measure.

Specified Enter a value for weight.
Unkown Only shows if IPC 1754 is enabled and your Business Administrator has enabled Unknown as a quantity type. When selected, the app uses the minimum and maximum values for rolling up compliance.

Weight U of M The weight unit of measurement.
Revision Level The revision of the material.
Revision For internal materials, the revision number.
Revision Status Blank for any type of material other than internal material, and blank for the latest revision of an internal material.

For an internal material, shows an orange square if a higher revision exists. Hover over the square to view the level of the higher revision. Click to open the higher revision in a new window. if the higher revision is obsolete the orange square does not show.

Type The object type of the material.
Description The material description.
Trade Name The trade name of the material.
State The current state of the material.

Create Material Creates a new external material and make it a component material of a part.

Creating Materials
Add Existing Connects one or more materials to the part as component materials. Internal materials must be in the Approved state. Internal materials in the Development or Review state, and component internal materials in the Development, Review, or Approved state can be added as children.

After you select the materials, you specify the Weight and Weight Unit of Measure of the materials to be connected to the part as component materials.

About Searches
Update to Latest Material Revision Replaces the selected internal material with the latest revision of that internal material. –
Remove Disconnects selected component materials from the part.

Not available for reported parts.

Delete disconnect and delete one or more component materials from the part. If the material is connected to any other object such as another part or material a warning message is displayed and the material will not be disconnected or deleted.
