Adding Alternate or Substitute Parts to a BOM

You can add manufacturing parts to a BOM. Substitute or alternate parts can be added only for a primary part. When you add or remove substitute or alternate parts, the change applies to all plants, and the MBOM is updated for all plants.

Before you begin: Access a part Bill of Materials page in Common View. See Part Bill of Materials - Plant Preferences View.

Removing Manufacturing Substitutes
  1. From the page toolbar, click Edit All.
  2. Select the check box for the primary part for which you want to add substitute or alternate parts.
  3. From the page Actions menu or toolbar, click Manufacturing > Add Substitute Part/Add Alternate Part.
    The Search page opens, where you can select parts to add to the BOM. See About Searches.
  4. Select one or more parts to add and click Done. The MBOM page is refreshed showing the added parts in green.
    Note: The F/N, Ref Des, Qty of the primary part must match the F/N, Ref Des, Qty of the substitute and alternate part.
