Using Deviation Change Requests

If you have a Senior Design Engineer or Senior Manufacturing Engineer role, you can use a Deviation Change Request (DCR) to replace parts in a released BOM structure.

Before you begin: Open a released end item part’s MBOM from the Plant-Specific tab. See About Part Bill of Materials - MBOM Plant-Specific View.
  1. Click Raise ECR/Perform Deviation Process from the Actions menu on the Plant-specific View (MBOM). The MBOM must be Current (implemented MCO). See Editing Part Bill of Materials - MBOM Plant-Specific.

An ECR is created and displayed. In the back end, the ECR automatically has the Deviation flag set to true. This is not shown.

  2. On the ECR, click the Affected Items category and see that the part that the ECR was raised from is automatically connected. See Proposed Changes Page.
  3. Click the link of the part and navigate to the Plant Preferences View. See Part Bill of Materials - Plant Preferences View.
  4. Make BOM changes and click Save/Save As from the Markup menu.
  5. The ECR that you navigated from is automatically filled in. You can search for a different change but you will see only COs, CRs, and other ECRs that are for deviation purposes.
  6. Save the markup and navigate to the ECR.
  7. From the ECR's Lifecycle page, promote the ECR to the Submit state, which automatically approves the associated Markup. See Promoting an Item.
  8. The ECR Coordinator for the RDO promotes the ECR to the Evaluate state, thus creating the DCR that is displayed.
  9. The Responsible Design Engineer of the ECR promotes the DCR to the Review state which launches a route based on the Reviewer's List template.
  10. Once the task(s) are approved, the last approver sees a message, "Notice: Deviation changes successfully initiated."

At this point you can navigate to the node "Related Deviation Change Orders of the DCR and see the MCOs created to carry out the deviation. These two MCOs are considered the DCO.
