Creating a Physics Simulation Variant

You can create physics simulation variants from the results available in a simulation case.

  1. Insert a physics simulation in the experience. For more information, see Inserting Physics Simulations.
  2. Optional: Edit the properties of the simulation actors, that is, the result actor and its children (decomposition element actor, simulation animation, and legend actor). For more information, see Object Properties.
  3. In the Variant panel, create a simulation variant line.

For more information, see Creating Variant Lines and Variants.

  4. In the 3D area (using the level selector), or in the tree available in the Project panel, select one or more simulation results as an option for your variant.
  5. In the Variant panel, in the Simulation line area, click to create the variant thumbnail.

Your first physics simulation variant is created.

  6. Optional: Rename the variant thumbnail if needed.
  7. Repeat the previous steps as many times as necessary.

Your physics simulation variants are added to the simulation line.

You can group simulation variants along with other variants in a stage variant, to activate them all together in one click. For more information, see Creating a Stage.

Notes:
  • When a simulation variant is activated, the content of the other variants in the same line is hidden.
  • If the activated variant contains results with animations, then, in the presentation (Play) mode, they are played according to their properties (such as speed, loop, or bounce). For more information, see Object Properties.
Tips: Here are a few ideas for integrating physics simulation variants in your presentation:
  • You can create empty simulation variants. It is a useful way to hide the content of all the other variants in the line. Note that the first time you attempt to create an empty variant, a message appears, prompting you to confirm your intention.
  • To emphasize different aspects of a given simulation result, create two simulation variants based on the same simulation result, with different properties. For more information, see Object Properties.
  • To compare 2 or more simulation results, add them to the same variant. In this case, make sure to select these result items before creating the variant.
