Reordering Objects in Specification and Requirement Structures

You can change the order of objects in the structure of a specification or requirement either by dragging and dropping the object into a new location or using the actions in the Modify menu to select the new location of the object. Specification objects include requirements, comments, and chapters. All requirement objects, except for downstream requirements, are shown in the specification and requirement structures. All changes to a specification's structure must be made according to the rules for using the Cut, Copy, and Paste actions, even when dragging and dropping objects to make the changes. Use Drag and Drop to Reorder Objects

You can use the the drag and drop controls in the structure display or the Structure View to change the order of objects in the specification or requirement structure.

Required responsibilities:

Baseline: Leader (when the object is in the Frozen state) or Author

Select the object that you want to move in one of the following ways:
- In the Structure View , select the name of the object that you want to relocate in the structure.
- In the structure display, select Drag and Drop next to the object that you want to relocate in the structure.
Drag the object from its current location in the structure and drop it in its new location in the structure.
The Paste operations related to dialog box opens.
Select how you want to paste the object in its new location in the structure:
- Click Paste as child to make the moved object a child of the target object.
- Click Paste below as sibling to make the moved object a sibling of the target object and place it below the target object in the structure.
The Structure View and structure display update to reflect the object's new location in the structure.

Use the Modify Actions to Reorder Objects

You can use the Modify menu actions to change the order of objects in the specification structure.

Required responsibilities:

Baseline: Leader (when the object is in the Frozen state) or Author

From the toolbar, click Enable Modify .
Select the object in the structure that you want to modify.
Select the action that you want to perform on the selected object:
- Select Modify > Cut to remove the object from its current location in the structure.
- Select Modify > Copy to duplicate the selected object so that it can be copied in another location in the structure.
Select the location in the structure where you want to paste the cut or copied object.
Select how you want to paste the object in the structure:
- Select Modify > Paste as Child to paste the cut or copied object into the structure as a child of the selected object.
- Select Modify > Paste Above to paste the cut or copied object above the selected object as a sibling at the same level in the structure.
- Select Modify > Paste Below to paste the cut or copied object below the selected object as a sibling at the same level in the structure.
Note: You can select Modify > Undo to reverse any changes you made to a selected object in the structure before you have saved them. When you select Undo for a pasted row, the cut row is displayed in red strike-through text. Select Undo for the cut row as well.

Edited rows have color-coded icons to indicate the actions performed on them:
Color Meaning
The row was added to the structure.
The row was relocated from elsewhere under the same parent in the structure.
The row was cut from the structure.
Click Save.
The structure updates to show objects in the new order.
