Importing Revisions from DesignSync Modules

You can import revisions from DesignSync if the first model version revision has a DSFA connection to the module (not file or folder). This action checks whether all revisions have the same DSFA connection. The import is essentially an incremental import and model version revisions are never deleted.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Leader

Before you begin: Open the Properties page for a model version. See Model Version Properties Page.

  1. From the toolbar, select Actions > Import Revisions from DesignSync.
  2. Enter these details:

    FieldDescription
Import VersionsChoose an option to define the version to import:

    OptionDescription
AllImports all versions of the DesignSync module.
All taggedImports only those versions that have a version tag (ignoring "Latest").
All on this branchImports all versions on the branch specified in the next field. This option is the default.
All tagged on this branchImports all versions that are tagged on the branch specified in the next field.
These versions onlyImports only the set of version numerics specified in the next field.

Branch/VersionsThis field is active only when the previous field is one of the last three values. Type the branch or set of version numerics to import:
    • If "All on this branch" or "All tagged on this branch" is selected, enter a branch numeric value or branch tag. The branch tag can include the trailing colon but does not have to. You can only enter one value in this field.
    • If "These versions only" is selected, enter a comma-separated list of one or more selector values. You can enter a numeric version value or a version tag as selectors, but do not use generic selectors (such as RelA:Latest). For version tags (but not version numerics), you can use wildcards (such as Rel*).
Note: The DesignSync version or branch numeric value or tag to be imported cannot contain commas.
Update DesignSync connection for selected existing revisionsIf selected, this option updates the DSFA connection for each revision that exists and matches the specification of what to import. This option is selected by default.
Update tags for selected existing revisionsIf selected, this option updates the tags for each revision that already exists and matches the specification of what to import. This option is selected by default.
Synchronize derivation information at end of importIf selected, this option automatically runs the Synchronize Derivations command on the model version at the end of the import to set the derivation information. This option is selected by default.
Import Module HierarchySpecifies if you want to import the module hierarchy in addition to importing the revision details.

    OptionDescription
No ImportOnly the model version revision is imported. The module hierarchy is not imported.
One LevelOnly imports the next sublevel (all submodules at that level) for the context model version revision.
    FullImports the entire module hierarchy.

See Importing a DesignSync Module Hierarchy as a Model Version Hierarchy for additional details.
When Model Version does not existWhen importing the module hierarchy, choose what the app should do if a matching model version revision cannot be found for a module being imported:

    OptionDescription
CreateCreate a model version for the unmatched module.
IgnoreSkip the module and any of its submodules. All modules with matching model versions will be imported.
ErrorDisplay an error message and cancel the import for all modules, even those for which a matching model version was found.

  3. Click Done.

  • If not all revisions are connected to the same DesignSync object, the command fails with a descriptive error message.
  • If all revisions are connected to the same DesignSync object, the app identifies all versions of the object in DesignSync and automatically creates a new revision for any version that does not already exist.
Note: Selectors are used to identify versions that already exist as revisions. Any revision that is created is given the appropriate DSFA connection to the DesignSync version.
