About Advanced Connections

Advanced connections are created by performing complex operations on panels and profiles.

The advanced connection is a feature that executes action rule defined in rules catalog or rules library, set in the Data Setup. The action rules let you create, modify, or remove a set of actions in a structure model.

The advanced connections can do series of actions in a click and automate the operations by executing the action rule. For example, if a stiffener is limited by another stiffener and we want to:

  • Define the delimitation type of the limited stiffener.
  • Define the end cut of the limited stiffener.
  • Create a slot between the limiting stiffener and the panel support of the limited stiffener.
  • Create a bracket between two stiffeners.
  • Create flange on the free edge of the bracket.
  • Connect two stiffeners.

In such a case, the administrator can create the required action rule and list all the required operations in it. These action rules are further added in the rules catalog or the rules library. The advanced connection tables are also added to this catalog or library. The advanced connections are created based on the action rule. For more information about action rules, see Managing Action Rules.

The advanced connection links a set of input features, an action rule, and a set of output features. When you start the Advanced Connection command and select the stiffeners, the action rule is executed. If the action rule is defined for creating end cut to the limited stiffener and creating a slot, only these operations will be performed. The output is managed as per the input and the action rule.

All the information related to advanced connections is available under the AdvConnectionSet node. This node is created under the ConnectionSet. For more information about connection set, see About Connection Sets. The output features, that is, endcuts and slots are aggregated under the EncutSet and SlotSet respectively. The following contextual commands are available for each input and output feature in the tree and the 3D area:

  • Center Tree Advanced Connection: displays the corresponding advanced connection in the center of the tree.
  • Update Advanced Connection: updates the corresponding advanced connection.
