Creating a Generic Section

You can create a generic section by creating a simplified section representation and associating a design table containing various section parameters.


Before you begin: Create a design table containing a list of section parameters in the excel format and save it in the database.

  1. Create a generic structure section reference.
  2. Sketch a profile in the Sketcher app.
  3. Define anchor points for the section reference.
  4. Create the simplified representation.
  5. Define the section parameters and formulas.
  6. Select Share > Save > Save with Options to save the model in the database.
  7. To associate the generic section with the different section parameters:
    1. In the Sketcher app, from the Tools section of the action bar, click Design table.
      The Creation of a Design table dialog box appears.
    2. Select Create a Design Table from the pre-existing file.
    3. Click OK.
      The Object Selection dialog box appears.
    4. In the From File tab, click Import.
      The File selection dialog box appears.
    5. Select an existing design table.
    6. Click OK in the File Selection dialog box.
    7. Click OK in the Object Selection dialog box.
      A message appears asking if you want to associate the columns of the design table and parameters of the model that have same name.
    8. Click Yes.
      The design table appears listing all the sections.

  8. Click OK.
    The design table is associated with the section reference and it appears in the tree. The section is now parameterized.
  9. Select Share > Save > Save with Options to save the section reference in the database.
    The generic section is saved in the database.
