User Interface: Filter Commands

The Filter commands filter a root object based on the attribute values of child objects in the structure, based on the product evolutions and variants associated with the model in the root object's configuration context, or based on validated volume. As part of filtering, you can open existing filters saved for the root object, copy existing filters from another revision of the selected root object, or copy any other filter that has been saved.

This page discusses:

Open Filter

Open a filter of <Object Name>
If there are any existing filters for the selected root object, opens the 3DSearch results to a list of all previously saved filters so that you can select one to apply to the current structure. For more information, see Retrieving and Applying a Saved Filter.

New Filter

Selection
Opens the Selection section of the filter specification so that you can include or exclude nodes in the structure from the new filter's context. You can only specify Selection criteria once per filter. For more information, see Selecting the Context for the Filter.
Attribute
Opens the Attribute section of the filter specification so that you can refine the structure of a root object by selected attribute criteria. For more information, see Filtering a Structure Using Attribute Criteria.
Configuration
Opens the Configuration section of the filter specification so that you can refine the structure of a root object by selected configuration criteria. For more information, see Filtering a Structure Using Configuration Criteria.
Volume
Opens the Volume section of the filter specification so that you can filter the objects in the structure in a validated volume (box, sphere, proximity) using a volume query. You can only specify Volume criteria once per filter. For more information, see Filtering a Structure Using a Volume Query.

Copy Filter From

Copy filter from another revision of <Object Name>
If there are any existing filters for other revisions of the selected root object, opens the 3DSearch results to a list of all previously saved filters so that you select which one to copy filter specifications from. For more information, see About Search Results.
Copy filter from any filter
If there are any existing filters, opens the 3DSearch results to a list of all previously saved filters so that you select which one to copy filter specifications from. For more information, see About Search Results.

Copied filters do not retain any connection to the original filter from which they were copied. Editing the criteria of the copied filter does not have any effect on the original filter.

Note: After you select a saved filter from the 3DSearch results to copy the filter criteria from, the copied filter opens. The following rules apply to copied filters:
  • Selection criteria are ignored.
  • Configuration criteria are applied only if the configuration context model of the copied filter's root object is the same as the configuration context model of the selected root object.
  • 6WTags are applied, but might produce no results.
  • If the selected root object is the same type as the copied filter's root object:
    • Attribute filters are applied.
    • The following volume criteria are applied: Box, Sphere, and Zone. Proximity filters are ignored.
  • If the selected root object is not the same type as the copied filter's root object:
    • Attribute filters are ignored.
    • Volume filters are ignored.
