Creating a Simulation Domain

The Simulation domain specifies the physical characteristics of a material that dictate the response of the material in a simulation. To create a Simulation domain, you define material options and material behaviors.

Material options are defined outside the scope of a standard simulation workflow. Use this task to preconfigure materials before they are used in the simulation.

Before you begin: Only a Leader can create materials or material domains. The material must be open in the Material Definition app (see Accessing Materials) or applied to an open product. You cannot create a simulation domain or edit materials for a product in the FROZEN lifecycle state. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: Controlling Access to Content in Collaborative Spaces.

  1. If it is not already included, add the Simulation domain to the material using the procedure in Adding Material Domains.
  2. Right-click on the Simulation domain in the tree and select domain_name object > Definition.
The Material Definition: Simulation Domain dialog box appears.
  3. Enter the Options and Behaviors data.
  4. Click OK to save your changes and to close the Material Definition: Simulation Domain dialog box.

Important: Save the new or updated material definition to the database before using it in an app. (See Saving Content in 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps.)
