Viewing and Editing File Properties

File properties such as the design number, name, and owner are stored in data cards. When designs have multiple configurations, the values for each configuration are stored and updated separately.

File properties for SOLIDWORKS designs can also include custom properties.

You can view the properties of the file, and, if you have permissions and you have the file checked out, you can edit some of them.

There are multiple ways to access the properties for a file:

  • Right-click the file in Windows Explorer and click Properties.

    The Properties dialog box for the file appears, letting you view for the file the general properties, the data card, and the custom properties.

  • Select the file in Windows Explorer and click the Properties tab.

    The data card for the appears in the lower part of the right pane, with separate tabs for each configuration.

  • Open the file in SOLIDWORKS and click File > Properties.

    The Summary Information dialog box appears, with tabs where you can view and edit Custom and Configuration Specific properties.

  • Select the file in Windows Explorer and click Display > Explore in Web.

    A browser window with the web client login page appears. When you complete the login, the screen shows a summary of the properties for the file.
