Creating Links from the Coverage View

From the Coverage view of a scope, you can create two kinds of links: PLM links and link set links. For more information, see Traceability Links.

Before you begin: Enter the Coverage view. For more information, see Computing Traceability.
Important:
  • To create link set links:
    1. Create a link set. For more information, see Create a Link Set.
    2. From the tree, drag it to the scope.
  • To create PLM links, no link set is needed. The links will be stored in the 3DEXPERIENCE database.

  1. From the context toolbar, click Link Creation .
A label displays a suggested link type and location (database or link set).
  2. Optional: To modify the link type and location:
    1. Click the link label.

    2. In the Select Link Type dialog box, select a database and then click Next:

      Link type Database
      For a PLM link 3DEXPERIENCE

      (or customized ENOVIA repository name)

For a link set link Link set
Note: This link set must be added to the scope.

    3. Select a link type:

      • For a 3DEXPERIENCE database, in the Default Type list, select one of the following types:
        Link Type Description
        RefImplements
        • To create implement links between two components at their definition level.
        • From Physical, Logical or Functional object to Physical, Logical, Functional or Requirement object.
        OccImplements
        • To create implement links between components where they are used (components that are instantiated in the context of a system, for example). This kind of link can only be created in the context of a RefImplements link.
        • From Physical, Logical or Functional object to Physical, Logical, Functional or Requirement object.
Covers To create links between low-level requirements and high-level requirements.
Note: With Traceable Requirements Management, you can decompose high-level requirements into individual detailed low-level requirements so that they can be partitioned and allocated to products and features.
      • For a link set storage, in the Connection mode list, select one of the following items:
        Connection Mode Description
Reference-Reference To create links between two references, and define a traceability context at the higher level (definition of the component)
Instance-Instance To create links between two instances that is, between objects that are used in a specific context (a model, for example)

  3. To create a single link, drag the source element to a target element.

  4. To create links from one source to several targets:
    1. Select one source element.
    2. Press Ctrl from your keyboard, and select several target elements.
    3. From the context toolbar, click Link Creation .

      The links are created.

  5. To create links from several sources to one target:
    1. Press Ctrl from your keyboard, and select several source elements.
    2. Select one target element.
    3. From the context toolbar, click Link Creation .

      The links are created.

  6. To delete a link:
    1. Select the link.
    2. From the context toolbar, click Delete .
