Creating and Editing a Scope

You can start the traceability analysis by creating a scope, and then referencing the documents, models and links sets to be analyzed.

This task shows you how to:

Create a Scope

  1. To create a scope from the home page:
    1. Click Home .
    2. Click Create Scope .
  2. To create a scope from the work area:
    1. In the tree, select a location:

      • The Scope category
      • A folder in the Bookmark or Workspace categories.

    2. In the properties area, click Create a Scope (or Create if you selected the Scope category).
  3. Enter a name and select a policy. By default a policy is selected.
  4. In the tree, click the new Scope object.
The scope is created and contains the following nodes:

    Structure Element Description
Scope name Represents the scope object.
Roots Displays the root elements that are used in the scope.
Traceability Displays the traceability Overview that provides access to the Coverage view.

See Analyzing Coverage in the Graphical View.

Snapshots Displays the snapshots that can be compared.

See Comparing Traceability Models with Snapshots.

Reference Elements in a Scope

Once created, you can add the documents, models and links sets to be analyzed.

  1. From the context toolbar, click Edit .
  2. To add elements to the scope, drag them from the tree to the work area:
    • Drag an element from the tree category (Functional, Logical, Bookmark Root...).
    • Drag a traceability element from the Traceability node of an existing scope.

A dialog box appears to let you select one of these options:

      • Original element: to drop the original element of the traceability element being dragged.

By default, this option is selected.

      • Traceability element: to drop the traceability element (with its traceability links, if any).

  3. To display potential candidates (the functional or logical references that are linked with your selection) along with proposed traceability channels:
    1. Select an element.
    2. Click Show Suggested Neighbors .

    3. To accept and insert the proposal, click the element.

You can now create traceability channels between the added documents. For more information, see Creating Traceability Channels.
