Lifecycle Page

The Lifecycle page tab for an item shows the states the item must pass through, and provides access to promote, demote, sign-off, and access routes for the item.

The policy that governs the item's lifecycle determines which states show on this page, and the requirements to promote or demote from one state to another.

To access this page:

  1. Open the required object.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Lifecycle.

The lifecycle chart and toolbar can contain any of these items. Not all pages include all of these items.

Item Description
State A blue box indicates the current lifecycle state. A gray box indicates other states in the lifecycle.
Arrows between states Indicates the possible states the item can be promoted to. Some policies include branches where, depending on other actions, the item can be promoted to one of a selection of states.
Indicates a route must be completed to promote to the next state. Click to open the list of routes (likely only one route shows in the list). Click the route name to view its details.
Indicates sign-offs are required to promote to the next state. Click to open the signature list. If the signature name is not a link, you cannot approve or reject the promotion. If the signature name shows as a link, click it to open the approval dialog box. You can approve, reject, or ignore the promotion.
Tasks/Signatures page tab Lists all tasks or signatures needed before this item can be promoted to the next state. See Tasks/Signatures Page Tab.
Approvals page tab Lists details about each approval for this object and related objects. See Approvals Page Tab.
Promotes the item to the next state. See Promoting an Item.
Demotes the item to the previous state.

If the object is included in a state-based route and that route's status is Started, the route is automatically stopped. If the state to which it was demoted also has a state-based route, that route is automatically started from its beginning.

Evaluates if the object meets all the requirements needed to be promoted See Running a Promote Trigger Validation Report.

Note: The lifecycle descriptions in User's Guides define the policies as they are installed. Some apps can modify the policies of other apps, and your company could have modified policies to add or remove signatures, hide states, or add additional checks and processes.
