Ingredient Properties: QS

This topic describes the information that you can view or edit in the QS tab of an ingredient's Properties pane. A QS (Quantum Sufficit) ingredient is an ingredient whose level floats to make up the difference between the percentage sum of other ingredients, and 100%.

Target Weight Calculation Based On

Option Description

Fixed Weight / Percentage

When selected, the ingredient is not a QS ingredient. Its weight or percentage in the formula is fixed. This is the default option.

QS to Keep Formula Weight Constant

When selected, the ingredient is a QS ingredient for the whole formula. Its level equals the difference between the sum weight of all the formula's other ingredients, and the total weight of the formula.

If more than one ingredient has this option selected, the ingredients are combined in proportion to make up the difference, so that the ratio between the QS ingredients remains constant.

QS to Keep Phase Weight Constant #

When selected, the ingredient is a QS ingredient for a phase. Its level equals the difference between the weight sum of the other ingredients in the phase, and the total weight of the phase.

If more than one ingredient in the phase has this option selected, the ingredients are combined in proportion to make up the difference, so that the ratio between the QS ingredients remains constant.

QS to Unknown or TBD Volume

When selected, the ingredient is a QS ingredient in a formula that is batched by volume. Its level equals the difference in volume between the sum of the other ingredients and the total of the batch. The total volume of the batch could be unknown because volume measurements, unlike weight measurements, do not add linearly.

This option is only enabled when the formula's Batch Size is specified by Volume (see Formula Properties: Weights).

QS to Selected Piece Size (Dry)

When selected in a formula with piece weights, the ingredient is the dry weight filler. The weight of the ingredient automatically adjusts to fill the difference between the sum of the rest of the ingredient weights, and the piece weight. If more than one ingredient has this option selected, they are combined in proportion to make up the difference, so that the ratio between the QS ingredients remains constant.

Quantity is Unknown

When selected, the ingredient is a QS ingredient whose level is unknown.

Adjustments (Optional)

This section shows identifying information about the ingredient's material. You cannot edit the information in this section.

Option Description

QS Target Component

If selected, the ingredient is a target ingredient in the formula. Target ingredients are read-only.

The total of all target ingredients is controlled by the nominal concentration of the formula. You set this in the formula's Properties panel. When you change the formula's nominal concentration, the target ingredients vary proportionately.

Nominal Concentration

The total wet % of all target constituents in a composite material.

This field is read-only.

Lot Concentration The concentration for the lot of material. This field enables users to make adjustments to the total of the target constituents of the material. This can happen because the concentration or percentages of the target constituents vary on a lot-by-lot basis (in the inventory). This field enables users to make the required corrections.
