Creating a Premix Phase and Linking to It

You can create a premix phase in a formula that groups ingredients that are processed together and whose weight is not included in the formula's total weight. To include an amount of the premix phase in the formula, insert a link to premix row in the formula grid.

Create a Premix Phase

Before you begin: To perform this task, you must have the Formulation Designer 3DS role.
  1. In the formula grid, select the row above which you want to create the new premix phase. If the row is an ingredient row, this ingredient, and all ingredients below it until the next phase header, will be included in the premix phase.
  2. In the formula grid toolbar, click Insert Row , and select Insert Phase from the menu.
  3. Open the phase's properties pane, and specify the phase's name and (optionally) a processing note. For more information, see "Viewing and Editing Phase Properties."
  4. Still in the properties pane, select Don't include in formula totals. This defines the phase as a premix phase.
    The options for premix phases become available under Phase Size, When Phase Size Changes, and Handling Per Piece Changes to Ingredients in Phase.
  5. Specify options under Phase Size, When Phase Size Changes, and Handling Per Piece Changes to Ingredients in Phase as required. For more information, see "Viewing and Editing Phase Properties."
  6. Add more ingredients to the phase if required, by creating them or moving them into the phase from elsewhere in the formula grid. See Adding an Ingredient to a Formulaand Adding, Moving, and Deleting Rows.

Create a Link to a Premix Phase

Before you begin: To perform this task, you must have the Formulation Designer 3DS role.
  1. In the formula grid, select the row below which you want to insert the link to the premix phase. This row must be in a different phase from the premix phase.
  2. In the formula grid toolbar, click Insert Row , and select Insert Link to Premix from the menu.
    The Link to Premix dialog box opens.
  3. In the Link to Premix dialog box, select the premix phase to which you want to link.
  4. Click Link.
    The link to the premix phase is added to the formula.
  5. Edit the amount and the properties of the premix in the same way as for a standard ingredient. For more information, see Adding an Ingredient to a Formula, Viewing and Editing Ingredient Properties, and Ingredient Properties.
