Displaying Multiple Minimum Distances Using Track Collections

You can define multiple minimum distances between moving objects and context objects using Track collections.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: The session data must include context objects, and a Track with multiple moving objects requiring multiple minimum distances to be defined in a simulation context.

Define Track Collections

You can create Track collection lists.

  1. Run the Manage Collections for Track command in the Simulation section of the action bar.
    The Manage Collections for Track panel appears.

    The panel includes:
    • Commands: you can create or delete a collection using the add and delete commands.
    • Columns: Collection and Type of Collection.
    • Types of Track Collections:
      • Moving: Collection consists only moving objects
      • Context: Collection consists only context objects
      • None: Collection is empty (it is impossible to define a type)
      • Invalid: Collection consists of both moving and context objects
  2. Click add in the panel.
    The List of Items panel appears. Add objects to the list by selecting objects in the tree or the 3D viewer.

    The panel includes:
    • List Name: where you provide the name of the collection.
    • Selected Objects: shows the selected object in the 3D viewer and a list view of the product names in the collection.
  3. Click OK to create the list.
    The list appears in the Manage Collections for Track panel.
    Tip: You can right-click the list to Edit, Delete Selected, or Delete All. You can also double-click a list in the Collection row to edit it directly.

A Track collection is now created and multiple minimum distances can be specify for the moving objects in the Track.

Manage Invalid Track Collections

You can resolve invalid collections edited from the Manage Collections for Track command without losing information.

Notes:
  • When a collection contains both moving objects and context objects, it is defined as an invalid collection. This can occur when an object added to a collection is either assigned or unassigned as a moving object of a track.
  • The same workflow applies for invalid collections edited from the Multi-Clearance tab of the Path Planning command and for product or item collections.

  1. Double-click the invalid list in the Manage Collections for Track panel.

    Note: A warning icon is displayed at the beginning of the row for invalid lists.

    The List of Items panel appears.
  2. Filter the objects by type by choosing between the following options:
    OptionDescription
    Moving Objects Displays only moving objects.
    Context Objects Displays only context objects

    Note: By default, both options are selected, that is, both moving and context objects are displayed.

  3. Right-click one or several objects of a given type in the list and from the context menu click Move to New Collection .

    Tips: You can also:
    • Remove the selected object of a given type (moving or context objects) from the list using the Delete Selected command in the context menu.
    • Remove all the objects of a given type (moving or context objects) from the list using the Delete All command in the context menu.
      Note:
      • Multiselection is only allowed on the same object types.
      • The command is visible only if the same object types are selected.
    • You can repeat this step as many times as required until the collection is valid.

    The New Collection panel appears.
  4. Enter the required information in the New Collection panel:

    • Name: Enter the name of the new collection.
    • Collection Type: A read-only label displaying the value of the selected object type. It can be either Context or Moving.
    • Moved Objects: A read-only label displaying the object or list of the objects moved to this new collection.

  5. Click Close to close the New Collection panel.

    Warning: The New Collection panel is a display-only panel, that is, the collection is created only when you validate the List of Items panel from which this new collection is instantiated. If you click Cancel, all changes are lost.

    The selected object is removed from the collection and the List of Items panel and moved to the new collection.
  6. Click OK in the List of Items panel to validate your changes.

The invalid list is resolved and becomes valid and a new collection is created from the moved objects.

Define Multiple Minimum Distances

You can use the created Track collection to define multiple minimum distances for moving objects.

  1. In the App Options panel, show Global Minimum Distance by turning the option on.
    Global Minimum Distance is displayed.
  2. Run the Multiple Minimum Distances command in the Simulation section of the action bar.
    The Multiple Minimum Distances panel appears.

    The panel includes:

    • Commands: you can create or delete a minimum distance using the add and delete commands.
    • Check box: allows you to activate or deactivate the minimum distances.
    • Columns:
      • Minimum Distance Collection: lists the name of the minimum distance, which you can edit by clicking and entering a new name.
      • Moving Objects Collection: lists the collections of Moving Object Type that were defined with the Manage Collections for Track command.
      • Context Objects Collection: lists the collections of Context Object Type that were defined with the Manage Collections for Track command.

    Note: In the case of an invalid collection assigned to the minimum distance, the invalid collection name is displayed with a warning icon next to it. This minimum distance remains unusable until you resolve the invalid list. For more information, see Manage Invalid Track Collections.

  3. Click add in the panel to create a minimum distance. The new minimum distance appears in the panel. Define the required attributes, including the list created with the Manage Collections for Track command. Repeat this step to create the number of minimum distances required.
    A minimum distance is created.
  4. Select the Track and play the simulation.
    The multiple minimum distances defined appear throughout the simulation in colored text.

    Text color represents:

    • Red: penetration
    • Yellow: contact
    • Green: clearance
  5. Run the Path Planning command in the Simulation section of the action bar.
    This enables the Track Plot command.
  6. Run the Track Plot command.
    In the Track Plot viewer, four curves are shown: the minimum distance curve for Global Minimum Distance, the Clash limit curve, and the two created minimum distances.

    Note: You can define the color and thickness of curves in the Options command in the upper left corner of the panel.
  7. Click the Track Simulation Analysis File Export command in the upper right corner of the Track Plot viewer.
    This creates a root folder called TrackAnalysis_<TrackName>. This folder contains a summary report that links to a summary of all minimum distances. The root folder also includes two folders: one for local minimum distance and one for global minimum distance. Local minimum distance folder includes the created minimum distances.
    Note: Only the activated minimum distances are exported.

Multiple minimum distances are now created and you can view them.
