The following procedures describe how to upgrade to a new version of Exalead CloudView.

Perform a Product Upgrade

Before you begin: If your Exalead CloudView configuration uses the Consolidation Server, wait for all compact tasks to be finished before migrating.
  1. Back up your data.
  2. Stop the product.
  3. Unzip the product archive to a new <INSTALLDIR> installation directory.
  4. Run the install script located in the <INSTALLDIR>: 

    install.[sh|bat] -migrate -data <OLD_DATADIR>

  5. Restart the product.

Perform a Product Upgrade in a Multihost Installation

If service interruption is not an issue, you can perform a product upgrade for Exalead CloudView on a multihost deployment with the following procedure.

  1. Stop the product on the primary and secondary servers.
  2. Unzip the product archive to a new installation directory <INSTALLDIR> on the primary server.
  3. Run the install script located in the <INSTALLDIR>: 

    install.[sh|bat] -migrate -data <OLD_DATADIR>

  4. Restart the product on the primary server.
  5. Unzip the product archive to a new installation directory <INSTALLDIR> on all secondary server installs.
  6. Run the install script located in the <INSTALLDIR>: 

    install.[sh|bat] -migrate -data <OLD_DATADIR>

  7. Restart the product on the secondary servers.

Each secondary server will contact the primary server and update its full configuration.

Perform a Product Upgrade Without Service Interruption

This procedure describes how to perform a product upgrade for Exalead CloudView without service interruption.

  1. Stop the product on the primary server.
  2. Unzip the product archive to a new installation directory <INSTALLDIR> on the primary server.
  3. Update the product configuration; run the install script located in the <INSTALLDIR> as follows: 

    install.[sh|bat] -migrate -data <OLD_DATADIR>

  4. Restart the product on the primary server.
  5. Detach the secondary server replicas from the primary server by launching the following command in the cvadmin tool: 

    cvconsole cvadmin> indexing detach-replica buildgroup=<REPLICA NAME> instance=<INSTANCE NAME>
 slice=<SLICE NUMBER>

  6. Stop the product on a secondary server.
  7. For this secondary server, unzip the product archive to a new installation directory <INSTALLDIR>.
  8. For this secondary server, run the install script located in the <INSTALLDIR>: 

    install.[sh|bat] -migrate -data <OLD_DATADIR>

  9. Restart the product on secondary server.
  10. Reattach the secondary server replicas to the primary server by launching the following command in the cvadmin tool: 

    cvconsole cvadmin> indexing attach-replica buildgroup=<REPLICA NAME> instance=<INSTANCE NAME>
 slice=<SLICE NUMBER>

  11. Repeat steps 5–10 for each secondary server.
