Creating an Electrical Component Reference

You can create the following electrical components:

  • Shell connector
  • Splice
  • Terminal block

When you create the electrical component in a diagram view, you can define a symbol representation of the component in Data Setup and insert it in a diagram view. If no representation is found for this type of electrical component, a representation is searched among its fathers' type.

The electrical component created to illustrate this scenario is a shell connector. The steps are the same for other electrical components.

Creating an Equipment Reference
  1. Activate the diagram view.
  2. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Create New Reference .
  3. In the tree or in the diagram view, select the logical reference.
The New Content dialog box appears.
  4. Expand the Electrical Logical tab and right-click Logical Shell Connector.
  5. Optional: Select the Set attributes at creation option.

Note: This option remains selected when creating the same type of component.

  6. Click Logical Shell Connector.
  7. In the Logical Shell Connector tab, type a name.
  8. Optional: To create the content of the electrical component, select the Content tab and complete the following boxes:
    1. Select the type of pin to be created in the Type list.
    2. Select the number of pins to be created in the Number box.
    3. Optional: Type a prefix for the pins' names in the Prefix box.

Note: You can define forbidden characters through the Pin Name Forbidden Characters resource of the Data Setup to forbid the use of certain characters. If the name of the pin contains forbidden characters, you cannot validate your creation. When creating several pins, the forbidden characters are skipped.

    4. Type the name of the pins in the First Name box.

Note: If there is more than one pin, their names follow the alphabetical/numerical order according to the name of the first pin.

    5. Optional: Type a suffix for the pins' names in the Suffix box.
  9. Click Add.
The pins appear in the Pins To Be Created area.
Note: To remove pins, select them in the Pins To Be Created area and click Remove.
  10. Click OK.

A shell connector is created under the logical reference. Under the Extensions node, note that a connector node is created to store all the connectors. In our example, it aggregates a connector node containing the shell connector.

The component can be placed in a diagram view. For more information, see Placing Components.
