Defining Cable Part Number

You can assign a part number to a cable.

Before you begin:
  • The cable must have at least one wire.
  • Define a library containing elements with an Electrical Cable Reference type. For more information, see Creating General Libraries and Creating General Classes.
  • Define the classification attributes, and add them to the library and the class. For more information, see classification attributes and Creating Classification Attributes.
  • In the Data Setup > Electrical Specifications Resources resource set, assign an electrical specification resource with the tables and the filter to the Default Electrical Resources.
  • In Engineering Specification Capture & Reuse, create a basic table to list the different types of part types that can be returned. For more information, see Technological Tables.
  • In Engineering Specification Capture & Reuse, create a basic filter for cable and define the CablePN value for the Parts Filter Description attribute. For more information, Part Filters.
  • In Data Setup, in the Electrical Specifications Resources resource set, attach the specification to the List Electrical Specification Resources resource.
  1. Select a cable or a harness containing cables.
  2. From the Net to Wire section of the action bar, click Cable Part Number .

Note: You can change the default behavior on the filters using the Compute Cable Part Number resource.

The information about the found part numbers is displayed.
  3. If some cables have several cable part numbers available, select the right one in the list.
  4. Click OK.
The part number is set on the cable's instance.
