Importing Content

You can import content from different types of files.

  1. In the Top Bar, click Add and select Import.
    At the end of the Import command, imported content is explored in Classic Product Finder. When content is explored in the Classic Product Finder, you can display the Site Information by clicking on the Site Information option in the B.I. Essentials widget.

    The Import dialog box appears.

  2. In the Required section, click the selection arrow in the Format field and choose any type of files like, for example, 3DXML, STEP, IGES, Solidworks, or CATIA File.
  3. In the Source list, select one of the following options:
    • File on disk: allows you to import content from the selected drive.

      By default, this option is selected.

    • Exchange Space: allows you to retrieve and import content from the exchange space available in Program Central.
      Note: If the DLName, setting is activated, this option is not applicable.
    • Team Workspace: allows you to retrieve and import content from the project space available in Team Central.
      Note: If the DLName, setting is activated, this option is not applicable.
    • 3D Drive: allows you to import content from one of your 3D Drive folders or a folder you have access to.

  4. In the Location box, enter the path of the directory from where you want to import the content or click the icon in the box to browse for the directory.

    By default, the Location box is automatically generated with the required path or DLName.

  5. Enter the name of the object in the Filename field.

    You can click the icon to browse the files list.

    If the DLName is activated you can select the DLName, the FileName and the Format.

  6. In the Options section, click the Report tab.
  7. Select the Save Report check box, to save the generated report in a specific location.
    Notes:
    • You can edit the report name while importing documents, if you chose any of the four Source options (File on disk, Exchange Space, Team Workspace, 3D Drive).
    • If the DLName setting is activated the Location field of the Report tab is always filled with the defined DLName or a default DLName.
    • You can choose a location to save the report if you select the Source as File on Disk, or Collaborative Space.
