Cloning Services Products

You can clone existing Services Products. The Services Product to be cloned cannot be in the Obsolete or Canceled state, and the nested product structure cannot include any products in the Obsolete or Canceled state.

Required license role: Services Product Manager, Services Product Developer

  1. To clone a Services Product, open the Clone Product dialog box from one of these locations:

    • From the top bar, click Add > Services Management > Clone Product.
    • From the Products list, select a product and click Actions > Clone Product. For more information, see Products Page.
    • From the Properties page of a Services Product, click Clone Product . For more information, see Model Version Properties Page.

  2. Enter these details:

    Field Description
    Clone Based On If you started from the top bar, click to select the Services Product you want to clone.

    If you started from the Products list or Properties page, shows the Services Product that you selected to clone and cannot be changed.
    Include Related Data Choose how to treat the items associated with the original Services Product for the cloned Services Product.

    You can choose an option for these items related to the original Services product:

    • Configuration Feature
    • Nested Product
    • Product Specification
    • Reference Document

    If you choose an option for Apply To All, the app updates all of the items to the value. You can then define specific values for individual items.

    You can choose one of these options for each item:

    Option Description
    Clone Create a copy of the indicated item and connect it to the cloned Services Product. Changes made to the item for one Services Product are independent of the other Services Product.
    Share Connect the indicated item to both the original Services Product and the cloned Services Product. Changes made to the item for one Services Product affect the other Services Product.
    Discard Do not copy or connect the item to the cloned Services Product.

    Name A short name for the product. Click Autoname to have the app assign the product name.
    Type Services Product. There are no subtypes defined.
    Product Classification The type of financial product. You must assign a product classification before the Services Product reaching the Review state.

    These are the default choices; your administrator can choose to remove any classifications that your company does not use.

    Option Description
    Financial Product A marketing entity that can include other services and products (a bundle).
    Financial Service A service performed for a customer, typically sold with other services within a product.
    Financial Component Technical part composing services.
    Financial Instrument Technical part composing services.

    If you do not select a classification now, you can add it later. You must select a classification before the Services Product reaching the Review state.

    Your organization can add classifications to this list, and those classifications could add additional attributes. For more information, see Configuring Services Management.
    Marketing Name By default this field is populated with the same value as you entered in the Name field. If you opted to automatically name the product, you must enter a marketing name.
    Change Controlled Select True or False. The default is False.

    When True, requires the release process of the Services Product to be managed by Change Management and you cannot promote the Services Product to the Draft state until it has been added to a Change Order.
    Description A brief description of the Services Product.
    Company Shows the company of the original Services Product. Click to search for and assign a different company for the new product.
    Owner Click to search for and assign an owner. By default, the person who creates a product is its owner.
    Design Responsibility Shows the organization of the original Services Product. Click to search for and assign the design responsibility for the model to a different organization or project.

    If no design responsibility is defined, the product is accessible by all Product Managers and System Engineers of the company. If you choose an organization that you do not belong to, you will not be able to access the new model once it is created.

    The design responsibility must be assigned before the product line reaches the Released state.

    Sponsor Click to select a person who endorses this product. If you add a governing project after you create this product, the sponsor for that project, if any, overwrites this value.
    Marketing Text Type the marketing text of the new product.
    Commercial Choose Yes if the product can be sold. Choose No if the product will not be sold.

    When defined as Yes, the Services Product is tracked by Product Referential Metrics. For more information, see Product Referential Metrics – Services Products List.

  3. Click OK.

    The clone process executes as a background job. You can track the progress of the clone process using the Background Jobs utility. For more information, see Background Jobs. The app sends you a message when the process completes. The message includes a link to the cloned Services Product.

The Related Project and Governing Project information is not copied to the cloned Services Product. If a project exists that will manage the development of the cloned product, edit the product properties to add that project as a governing project.
