Analyzing Traceability in the Table View

From the Table view, you can analyze the traceability links covering (or not covering) the elements of a traceability channel. The table displays the objects that are linked between the first element (primary column) and the elements of the other columns (secondary columns).

Two analysis methods are proposed for tables: coverage and impact layouts. For both, you can add columns, assign documents and select the details to be displayed.

Tables are stored and can be retrieved.

Enter the Table View

Before you begin:
  1. Open a scope with traceability channels or implement links. See Creating Traceability Channels.
  2. Open the traceability Overview. See Computing Traceability.
  1. From the navigation bar, click Table .
  2. Select a table in the Table View box or create a table.
  3. Optional: Select a number of rows in the Page Size box.

Create a Table View

The tables that were previously created for this scope are listed in the Table View box.

To open an existing table, select it in the list.

  1. Click Edit .
  2. To create a table view:
    1. Click Create Table View .
    2. In the Create Table View dialog box, enter a name for your table view, and then click OK.
      This table view will be available in the Table View: box when creating another table.
    3. Optional: From the context bar, use one of these commands:

      Option Description
      Download Excel File

      Downloads the active table view in a .xlsx format.

      Remove Selected Table View

      Deletes the table.

Edit a Table

  1. Click Edit .
  2. To insert an element in the first column, choose one of the following methods:
    • Click Add Document , and then select a traceability element in the list.
    • From the Traceability node (or from the Roots node) in the tree, drag an element onto Add Document .
  3. To insert an element in a secondary column, repeat Step 2.

    The first column is the primary one and the other columns are the secondaries. Depending on the table layout you choose, their relations are different;

    Table Layout Column Description
    Coverage All the secondary columns relate to the primary column.
    Impact Each secondary column relates to the column on its left.

    Tips:
    • In the same column, you can add several elements. This can be useful to see traceability between different channels.
    • You can add as many columns as required.
    • You can resize the columns.

Analyze a Table

  1. Select an analysis method in the Table Layout field:
    Table LayoutDescription
    Coverage

    Displays one row per element covering or covered by the element in the first column.

    By default, the coverage layout is selected.

    Impact

    Displays one row per element that is directly or indirectly covered by the element in the previous column.

  2. Optional: Select one of these check boxes:
    OptionDescription
    With uncovered Displays requirements that are not covered by links.
    Important: This option displays requirements that are identified with Object to trace: Yes. For more information, see About Traceability Computation.
    Default table view Displays the selected table after a refresh.
  3. Click Select Attributes to select the type of object attribute to be displayed.

    Coverage

    This command is available in the first column only.

    Impact

    This command is available in every column.

    Important: From an impact table, you can select Link to display the attributes of the following link types:
    • Requirement link (Status attribute)
    • Link set link (LinkResource attribute)
    • Link captured with a pattern

    The Link option displays extracted attributes for those links that are directly connected to the element in the secondary column.
    A column is created to display this information. The attribute also appears in the properties area.
    Tip: For RFLP elements, you can display additional object attributes. For more information, see .Extracting RFLP Attributes with the Attributes Selector View
  4. Optional: From the header row, click the arrows to sort and filter your table.
