Simulating a Parametric Task

You can run a parametric simulation by defining a range of parameter values.

Create a Parametric Simulation Task

You can create a task to run a parametric simulation.

  1. In the tree, select an assessment template.
  2. From the Design section of the action bar, click Parametric Simulation Task .
  3. In the Parametric Simulation Task dialog box:
    1. Enter a title for the task.
    2. Select a type.
  4. In the Input Parameters area:
    1. To add parameters to the task, drag them into the Input Parameters area.
    2. To generate a range of values, select a parameter and click Define range .

    3. To delete a parameter, select the parameter and click Delete .
  5. In the Output Variables area:
    1. To add variables to the task, drag them into the Output Variables area.

      Tip: You can drag the parent node of a variable array to plot all its elements at once.

    2. To delete a variable, select the variable and click Delete .
    3. Under the Type column, select the type of plot to be generated for each variable.

      • Time series: The complete time series as a continuous curve
      • Last Point: The last value for each simulation

    4. Under the Plot column, select the plot window number.

      Tip: To plot the variables in the same window, specify the same plot number for these variables.

  6. Click Simulate .
    The results of the simulation are generated as separate nodes under the assessment template in the tree. A plot appears showing all the variables series computed over the specified parameter range.

Define Parameter Range

You can create a range of parameter values.

  1. In the Parametric Simulation Task dialog box:
    • Select a parameter and click Define range .
    • Right-click a parameter and select Define range .
  2. In the Define sweep range dialog box, specify values for the following options:

    Option Description
    Distribution type Spacing pattern for the generated values: linear, quadratic, or logarithmic
    Minimum Value Start value of the sweep range
    Maximum Value End value of the sweep range
    Number of points Number of values to be generated
    Tip: The values to be generated are displayed in the Preview box.

The parameter values are generated and updated in the Input Parameters area of the Parametric Simulation Task dialog box.
