Probes

This describes the Probes of Machining.

You can use the Thumbnails to specify the types of clash probes.

Clash Machine

The machining probe detects a clash between a machine against other components, including also tool versus part collision detection. The mode Interrupt is available on Clash Stock and the machine; if selected it stops the simulation when a collision is detected. Right-click on the thumbnail to set:

  • Clash Machine Detection Off
  • Clash Machine Detection On
  • Clash Machine Detection Stop
  • Definition: Opens the Clash Machine Definition dialog box.

See Activating the Dynamic Clash Probe.

The Clash Machine Definition dialog box allows you to specify which clash pairs to apply. From this dialog box, you can:

Activate or Deactivate Clash Detection Pairs
Activate or deactivate clash detection pairs on tool parts, tool machine beds, tool fixtures, machine head parts, machine head machine beds, machine head fixtures, and machine head stock. You can also activate or deactivate clearance mode for each of these parameters. If a clearance mode is activated, you can define a Clearance value as:
  • A positive value reports a message when the components come near each other within the specified value.
  • A zero value reports a message if the components come in contact.
  • A negative value reports a message when the components collide within the specified value.
Note: When the clearance mode is activated with a positive clearance value, the fault is reported in the Fault List as a Clearance with this specific icon . The faults can also be filtered by clearance.
Define Custom Clash Pairs
Expand the Define Custom Clash Pair panel to create, modify, or delete custom clash pairs. All custom clash pairs are listed in the list box.
You can select to create a custom clash pair. You can also enter a name in the Custom Clash Pair Item field. Clicking Add allows you to select products in the work area, Delete removes products from the clash group. Clicking Apply saves the custom clash pair and adds it to the list of clash pairs displayed in the dialog box.
Select a clash pair item from the list box to modify it. Clicking Delete deletes the clash pair.
Highlight Clashing Groups
Highlights clashing groups. To unhighlight the clashing groups, click the button again.
The Highlight Clashing Groups option is avaialble only for the following machine head clash pairs:
  • Part
  • Machine Bed
  • Fixtures

Clash Stock

Detect clashes between stock and other components, such as tools and tool holders. Right-click on the thumbnail to set:

  • Clash Stock Detection Off
  • Clash Stock Detection On
  • Clash Stock Detection Stop
  • Definition: Opens the Clash Stock dialog box.

The Clash Stock dialog box allows you to specify gouge and clash volume parameters. From this dialog box, you can:

Detect Gouge
Select this check box to detect gouges and define the Gouge Tolerance. The Gouge Tolerance is set to 0.05mm by default, all gouges smaller than this value are not detected.
All gouges are displayed in the Fault Type list, and are sorted accordingly. For more information, see Fault Type.
Compute Clash Volume
Select this check box to compute the clash volume and define a minimum acceptable gouge volume to filter false positive clash detection. The Min Acceptable Gouge Volume is set to 0.00mm3 by default.
